November 13, 200322 yr On ESPN message board, report is that Guillen's agent was contacted by the Florida Marlins. Cited was the El Nuevo Herald, but I have not verified this. Anyone out there know if this is true? If so, interesting development in our RF saga - I expect that Encarnacion is going to demand too much money and that maybe the Marlins non-tender him - if they get a guy like Guillen lined up at the right price. You all know that I am intrigued by Guillen - sure he had one good year, but he hasnt been able to play consistently either. Put him in the right situation, and he may blossom into one of the better OFs in the NL. Keep your eyes on this...maybe consolation prize for Vlad (if we are even in the Vlad running anyway).
November 13, 200322 yr You knew they were going to talk to him. At least I did. Beinfest is going to explore any and every option possible, and he is one of them. Encarnacion and Lee will both ask for a boat load, and the Marlins will show them the door. Then, in the FA market, they'll be in for a suprise (Lee may get what he wants). He'll be in RF, Cabrera in LF, and Conine moves to 1B. IMO, that's fine with me. ESPECIALLY if Guillen can duplicate what he did last year (he dominated the NL, and did pretty badly in the AL).
November 13, 200322 yr Author If we get Guillen, we will be a much better offensive team by far. Imagine he and Cabrera for a full season - wow. That means, given who we have at catcher, we could have 4-5 guys hit over 20 homeruns, at least. Pierre Castillo ? Pudge ? Lowell Cabrera Conine Guillen Gonzalez P Or Castro @C, Hooper, Medrano, Reese, Young @2B. In that case, lineup would shift. Got plenty of offensive talent though, more power but much less speed.
November 13, 200322 yr I still see it like this: Castro Conine Castillo Gonzalez Lowell Cabrera Pierre Guillen
