John Buck was thrilled to see the Blue Jays reward Jose Bautista with a five-year, $65 million contract. The two were teammates in Toronto last season. Secretly, Buck was hoping the Blue Jays would go year to year with him.

 

“Well deserved,� Buck said. “I was hoping he wouldn’t sign. I know he’s from here and I was already trying to work on him to come here. Unfortunately, he’ll be locked up.�

 

Bautista, who hit 54 homers last season while splitting time between right field and third base, is a native of the Dominican Republic. He attended Chipola College in Marianna, Fla.

That would have been great to see though. Good to see Buck's efforts it shows he wants this team to win.
