April 17, 200323 yr Josh Boyd is previewing a match between a couple of good pitcher and rising prospects: By Josh Boyd April 17, 2003 Trevor Hutchinson was drafted by the Marlins in the third round last June, but the Cal senior didn't sign until after instructional league. The Mets drafted the Scott Boras client in the 20th round following his junior campaign, though he was considered a top-three round talent, but Hutchinson opted to return for his senior year. He gave up 106 hits in 117 innings for Cal last season. Hutchinson has yet to allow a run in his first eight pro innings for Class A Jupiter. He has been working with a heavy 89-92 mph fastball and good slider. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minors/dish.html Adrian Gonzalez has miss a beat ? Three games into his return from offseason wrist surgery, Marlins prospect Adrian Gonzalez is showing no ill effects. He collected three hits last night, including a triple, and is 6-for-14 thus far. * CAROLINA (SOU) C RYAN JORGENSEN(acquired in the Clement deal) drove in five runs to help the Mudcats edge the Chattanooga Lookouts in a 14-12 slugfest. Jorgensen, who went 3-for-5, hit a pair of RBI doubles in back-to-back at-bats and reached on an error and scored the first run of an eight-run eighth inning, which he later capped with a three-run homer to left field.
April 18, 200323 yr Author Well the kid is pitching great. JUPITER (FSL) RHP TREVOR HUTCHINSON tossed a one-hit shutout against the Fort Myers Miracle, 5-0. Hutchinson, a 2002 third-round pick of the Florida Marlins who recently ended an 8 1/2 month holdout to sign for $375,000, yielded a first-inning single, hit a batter and struck out four to improve to 2-0 in two starts. After surrendering a leadoff base hit to OF JAMES TOMLIN, the 23-year-old set down seven in a row until hitting a batter with two outs in the third. Due to a pair of fielding errors, only three other players reached base for Fort Myers. Hutchinson, who worked three innings out of the bullpen on April 12 because of a rehab start by Justin Wayne, has not yielded a run and just eight hits, striking out eight, over his first 15 frames. http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/minor...highlights.html
April 19, 200323 yr I was at the game yesterday and Hutchinson was masterful. He was consistently ahead in the count. Tonight I was there and saw Don Levinski throw 6 shutout innings in a 9-0 rout. While he didnt have his best stuff (he got saved by 3 double plays), he showed that he could gut one out when he has too. BTW, the Jupiter pitching staff has now thrown 21 shutout innings in a row!!!!!
