Kevin Brown To Yankees?

Featured Replies

Kevin Brown

Dec. 2 - New York Newsday cites multiple sources who indicate the Yankees "have seriously contemplated" trying to acquire Brown from the Dodgers, reportedly in exchange for right-hander Jeff Weaver. The paper indicates the Yankees are willing to assume the risk that Brown will stay healthy. He made 32 starts last season, but just 29 in the previous two seasons, combined. The deal would save the Dodgers about $14.5 million over the next two years, the difference between the two pitchers' salaries.

Carlos Beltran

Dec. 2 - The L.A. Times cites a baseball official who says the Dodgers, who have missed out on both Derrek Lee and Richie Sexson and are desperate to upgrade their offense, are pursuing a deal for Beltran.

L.A. GM Dan Evans wouldn't comment on the report, but he did say one of the reasons the team didn't swing a deal for either Lee or Sexson was the asking price for guys with only one year remaining on their contracts. "A guy who's a short-term commitment shouldn't be a player we would move elite players or prospects for," Evans told the Times.

Beltran also will be working on a one-year deal in 2004, assuming he accepts arbitration and doesn't work out a long-term extension. And Beltran's agent, Scott Boras, is unlikely to let his client sign a long-term deal without testing free agency.

The Royals still would like to retain Beltran, with GM Allard Baird saying, "I expect Carlos Beltran to be our center fielder next season, because I don't think any club is going to offer the kind of package we believe is necessary for a trade. But I have to listen."

Andy Pettitte

Dec. 2 - Conflicting reports continue to circulate as to exactly what has or hasn't been offered to Pettitte, but the bottom line remains that the left-hander essentially will choose between the Yankees and Astros, although the Braves could emerge as a serious bidder once Gary Sheffield officially signs with the Yankees.

According to reports, the Yankees have offered either three years and $30 million or four years and $48 million. The Astros either have offered three years and $30 million or have made no formal offer at all. And Pettitte either wants three years or five years and either to remain a Yankee or take less money to pitch closer to his Deer Park, Texas, home. The Angels and Red Sox had been in contact with Pettitte's agents, too, but each already has moved to bolster its rotation.

Vlad Guerrero

Dec. 2 - Guerrero's representatives met with the Orioles last week and have agreed to meet again before or during the winter meetings that begin Dec. 12. The Orioles remain the most serious suitor for Guerrero, with VP Jim Beattie previously telling the Baltimore Sun, "He's one of the two or three [hitters] we have a lot of interest in. I know his agents pretty well, and obviously I know Vlady very well." Beattie was in Montreal when Guerrero came up through the team's system. The Angels also are thought to have interest in the free-agent slugger.

Hey all, this is my first post here...

The Dodgers would have to be stupid to take on Wevaers salary and give away Brownie. Alex Gonzalez hit a WS winning homer off his for Pete's sake! As a Yankee fan, I would be open to anything that let us get rid of Weaver and save face, and it would be a cheaper move than signing Colon or trading for Vazquez.

A Yankee starting rotation of:

Mussina

Brown

Contreras

Pettitte

Lieber

Works for me. However, Pettitte wants 12 million a year and the Astros cannot afford over ten, so I don't see why the Yanks should offer him any more than that.

If I'm the Yanks I get rid of Pettite and sign Colon and Brown and then trade for either A-Rod or Vlad.

And since they got Tom Gordon from Chicago that eliminates their need for a 6'5" setup guy who's quietly one of the best in the AL LaTroy Hawkins from my Twinkies.

The Yankees WAY overpaid for Gordon, he got lucky A LOT last year for my White Sox, and they will regret giving him all that money.

I agree with Phlub in that LaTroy Hawkins is VERY underrated, and will be a steal for whoever signs him. Haven't heard about who is interested in Hawkins, but i'm shocked the Yanks signed Flash and not LaTroy.

Well our owner Pohllad is just a 89 yr. old cheap bastard.

But as long as he re-signs Shannon Stewart to a multi-year deal and LaTroy the Twins will be a force for years to come seeing as those are some of the few vets we have on a very young squad.

By the way, Mags, the Twins want LaTroy back and LaTroy wants to stay.

But whats the word on Colon? Because I'd love to see him leave you guys to anyother team as long as my Twins don't have to face him with the ChiSox.

Welcome to the boards SorianoFanHFW.

thanks, glad to be here.

Flash is deifnitely not worth more than 3.5 million a year, just like Steve Karsay is not worth 5 million a year. Heredia was a good signing, and so was Quantrill.

Hawkins wanted 5 million a year, but he would of probably went down to 4. I was hoping the Yanks would sign Urbina for about 4 million because he is so good against lefties, and that changeup of his is sick.
