December 4, 200322 yr I am going to pose this question. Are they safe? Should we be less worried about germs than we are? Are some germs actually good for us? Just a number of questions I throw out for you people to ponder.
December 4, 200322 yr If they kill all the bacteria, and then a new race of bacteria is left behind, we can always use jsut good ol' soap to do the job. Now penicillin scares me.
December 5, 200322 yr Author So why not just use good ole soap and water now to fend off germs rather than anti-bacterials. Remember there are good bacteria out there.
December 5, 200322 yr I won't pass judgement on anti-bacterials, because I have not personally seen the research and I don't know alot about the subject. But I will say people are overreacting about germs just like they overreact about everything. Let me use a Cuban slogan to explain my philosophy on if germs are dangerous and other things similar and not so similar to it: "Lo que no mata engorda." ("What doesn't kill fattens for those not so spanishly-inclined, it sounds better in spanish I know).
December 5, 200322 yr LOL My mom always says "Lo que no mata engorda." I love antibacterials. I feel cleaner.
December 5, 200322 yr I got nothing against good ol' soap. I use it everday. We clean our dishes with it. It kills bacteria too, so this anti-bacterial stuff is just for all of those obsessive people. :w00t
December 5, 200322 yr LOL My mom always says "Lo que no mata engorda." I love antibacterials. I feel cleaner. Its burning away your hands!!! I had no "sayings" in my house. Mostly being called bad names in italian, and saying "monje monje" when there's food on the table.
December 5, 200322 yr I admit I am obsessive. I am just a very clean person. When I ride the Metro Rail, when I get to my mom's office, I wash my hands first thing (she has a sink in her office). When I get home from work, I wash my hands. I wash my hands after I use the restroom, of course. I carry antibacterial when I am going somewhere when there's no soap and water available (i.e. outdoor concert, softball game, etc).
December 5, 200322 yr So why not just use good ole soap and water now to fend off germs rather than anti-bacterials.? Remember there are good bacteria out there. the vast majority of human "good" bacteria are found in the GI tract and in a woman's vagina. anti-bacterial soap won't affect these good bacteria unless you ingest a huge amount of it or you decide to use it as some sort of a poor man's douche. even then, the overall effect of douching with anti-bacterial soap is debatable since it indiscriminately kills good bacteria, bad bacteria, and yeast alike. other "good" bacteria on the human body can be found on the skin. it is believed that these bacteria degrade sweat and can help fight infections, but the actual protective effect of these bacteria is so arguable that we might as well live without them. our biggest barrier against infection is and always will be our skin. if you have a potential staph infection sitting on your skin, wouldn't you like to kill it off while you're in the shower? nonetheless, it's debatable whether or not using antibacterial body soap is necessarily a good thing, and the fact that children use the stuff worries me because it might retard the development of their immune systems. from our external environment, the only good bacteria we should be concerned about is the bacteria contained in the foods we eat. probiotic bacteria are found in many foods such as dairy, pickles, and sausages. since i've never heard of anyone washing their pickles and cheese with soap, i don't think anti-bacterials are a problem here. also, washing your fruits and vegetables with antibacterial soap can only be a good thing. i'm not convinced it's a good thing to make everything antibacterial, and there are a few unproven theories that antibacterials may actually cause antibiotic resistance. the link there is so dubious and unproven that i don't think it's really an issue until it can be depicted in a laboratory, but if it's true, it basically trumps the "good bacteria" argument against using antibacterial soaps. nonetheless, using antibacterial hand soap is unquestionably a good thing. your hands are probably your biggest potential carriers of infection, so when you wash them, it's a good idea to make sure that you've killed everything. i can look for a couple of links to support that, but just about any doctor you ask will tell you to use antibacterial hand soap over regular soap. again, my biggest question regarding antibacterials is whether or not they can lead to antibiotic resistance, but i won't worry about that until it can actually be proven.
December 6, 200322 yr the vast majority of human "good" bacteria are found in the GI tract and in a woman's vagina. are these bacterias good for ur toungue?

December 6, 200322 yr pubes: rimjobs are seriously the most unsafe form of sex... despite what they teach you in pornos, you're basically begging for hepatitis if you keep doing this. look what happened to pamela anderson.
December 6, 200322 yr Bacteria is not the source of all evil. If you wash your hands with plain soap, your hands will be clean enough and you won't get sick. The whole "scare campaign" going on about bacterial infections and deadly bacteria is just pure exageration. The most recent target of the "scare campaign", Salmonella, has been around for thousands of years, and just recently scientists discovered it was dangerous??? Do not eat raw chicken, cook your eggs well, do not touch raw food, etc., is what they say all the time. How come our grand parents and parents did not have to deal with the food as if it was highly contaminated? There was salmonella then, no body died from it. However, I am not saying to go ahead and eat raw chicken. My point is that the problem is not the bacteria. The problem is the way we fight the bacteria. Anti-bacterials and anti-biotics may kill a type of bacteria once, but if you get the same bacteria a second or third time, it may develop a resistance to the anti-bacterial and/or anti-biotic. What is more, using anti-biotics for example, slows and sometimes damages your immune system. The more anti-biotics you take as child, the less chances you will have to develop a healthy immune system and therefore you will probably always get sick with the same thing. Allergies are developed because of a failure of the immune system. The trend now is to pop anti-biotics and use anti-bacterials for everything, but is it really the approach we should take? Vaccines, anti-biotics, anti-bacterials, pain-killers, aspirin.... All have one thing in common, they are usually developed and manufactured by pharmaceutical companies. Conspiracy theory? maybe. I always thought that the reason they have not found a cure for any desease in the last decades is because of the pharmeceutical industry... It is more profitable to sell medicines to control a sickness than to cure it and kill their golden egg producer.... :angry

December 6, 200322 yr i think we schould all not take medicine only if we are dying. i havent been sick in 4 yrs. my immune system and white blood cells are tru soljas.
December 6, 200322 yr the vast majority of human "good" bacteria are found in the GI tract and in a woman's vagina. are these bacterias good for ur toungue? Ok, to put this very nasty topic to rest... Your tonge has more bacteria than a woman's vagina... It is actually more likely for us women to get an infection from your tonge than you getting an "infection" from a woman's vagina. The bacteria in there is actually protective bacteria, which is supposed to kill any harmful bacteria that could go into the vagina.
December 6, 200322 yr you even have more mouth bacteria than butthole bacteria. i dunno how harmful mouth bacteria is to the vagina, but i'll agree, vaginal bacteria keep away bad things like yeast that would otherwise colonize the whole damn thing. oh, and btw, your mouth is part of your GI tract, just like your anus and your intestines. nasty thought.
