Posted July 31, 201311 yr New Orleans Zephyrs left-hander Brian Flynn was named the Pacific Coast League's Pitcher of the Week for July 22-28, the league announced Monday. Flynn made two dominant starts, earning a no-decision at Iowa and a win at Albuquerque. On Tuesday against the Cubs, the left-hander threw 7 2/3 shutout innings as he struck out nine and allowed just three hits and a walk. He followed with seven innings of shutout ball on Sunday, as he fanned seven Isotopes and gave up only four hits and two walks. Flynn's 14 2/3 innings and 16 strikeouts led the league. Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Flynn was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Wichita State University. On July 23 last season, he was acquired with Jacob Turner and Rob Brantly from the Tigers for Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante. Flynn began the 2013 at Double-A Jacksonville before being promoted to New Orleans, where despite a 4-10 record, he ranks fourth in the PCL with a 3.14 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 18 starts. Flynn is the first Zephyrs pitcher to earn the PCL's weekly award this season. Las Vegas 51's infielder Jordany Valdespin earned the weekly honor as the PCL's top hitter, batting .550 with a league-leading 10 RBI in six games. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130729&content_id=55166722&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t588&sid=t588 Congrats!!!
July 31, 201311 yr Good stuff. Looking forward to seeing Flynn in the bigs soon. I think it's been mentioned before but with Slowey out for the year I wouldn't mind seeing Koehler moved to long relief (at least for now) and giving Flynn some starts. I like Koehler but am interested to see how Flynn would do. or like others have said, just slide him into the rotation once they shut down Jose Fernandez.

Flynn is far more interesting/promising than Koehler and not sure why the fish keep putting him out there

Seems to be what several of us have been thinking about Flynn in both cases. I definitely agree.
