Rose admits he gambled on baseball

Featured Replies

Pete Rose is the best pure ballplayer that has ever lived.

Now that he out of the River Denial, maybe the Wendy-o-cracy that is the Brewers/MLB Commissioners Office can get him in the Hall. History is history.

This is ridiculous what because he has the most Josh, it means he's the best? So Rickey Henderson is the best player ever?

And Cape, he's the best pure hitter ever... So I guess the fact that Teddy Ball Game hitting 400 was common, the fact that he gave up his best years to defend his country while if he hadn't he most likely would have had 700 Home runs and a few more 400 seasons. That doesn't matter but because Pete Rose has the record he's the best please. He was great but their's a reason he doesn't top most lists. amen dood

nobody over teddy ballgame. nobody. he is the best hitter tha t ever lived.

and when he was in teh war he was a fighter jet pilot and one of the best pilots the usa had cuz of his awesome eyesight. he is awesome. and hes in the fishing hall of fame to .

teddy ballgame is da man. nobody come close to him in all of baseball. nobody. i dont care who u say and what stat u pull up. nobody . I saw what I saw Cape, until you can prove to me that you didn't post he's the greatest pure hitter, I'm calling your bluff

you should know we cannot edit quotes of our posts...look above at pubes quote of your quote of my post.

Cape stop posting the same exact stuff

Rune you are the Department of Redundancy.

Now Cape stop telling me that Coaching has something to do with him as a baseball player. So what is Joe Torre one of the greatest baseball players ever, because he had success as a manager as well?

Is Torre a player-manager? While Rose was a player-manager, his team won! He played and managed pretty well.

your telling me that Darren Daulton is better than Barry BOnds because Dutch has more rings.

First, you aren't asking me what criteria to use to judge Dutch and Bonds

Second, you keep bringing up a comparison that is not relevant. Rose has a ring, Williams did not. If Williams was able to be such a good ballplayer and play on teams that were considered decent, why couldn't he lead better or win more?

Also I'd like to thank you for helping my side. Rose played in a bigger Nl Park, meaning that obviously his average should have been helped by The Wide Open Spaces, he would have more room to hit the ball while Ted was in a park that you yourself said was small. So answer me this, Why would more room equal a lower average.

Fielders in Rose's era were also much better than in William's era.

Now please answer this question, How many years did Pete Rose miss in his prime compared to Ted?

Rose was lucky enough to be in his prime at a time our country did not need his services in the military, unfortunately for Ted he was needed. You cannot fault Pete for being born or living at the wrong time.

You cannot fault Pete for being born or living at the wrong time. Cape what does managing have to do with being the best baseball player. You say you said best baseball player so if A Player-Manager has anything to do with it, then why didn't you say Manager in the first place?

And now back to another thing you said, Now it's the fielders were better in his era? Once again why are you adding things to your arguement as you go along. First it was The Stadiums now it was Fielding. Another thing Cape, your what 16, I hate to tell you but Pete Rose played in The 70's and early 80's. Williams way before that. What's your basis of judgement of the defense, a few games you saw on ESPN Classic? Plus if you have ever read Moneyball, great defense only effects 5% of the game, that's hardly enough to make up for the margin between Williams and Rose's Averages.

Thank you for answering that question, maybe if we were at a time of war things would have been different with Rose but Ted Williams DID miss those years and when you look at his career stats you could barely tell he was ever gone.

Cape what does managing have to do with being the best baseball player. You say you said best baseball player so if A Player-Manager has anything to do with it, then why didn't you say Manager in the first place?

Ted Williams was not as good a player because he was not a good leader or teacher. He was known for not helping teammates and that is why he tanked as a manager. Just look at his records with Washington. He was such a terrible manager that the team lost enough they had to move to Texas. Rose was a good teammate and that is part of being a ballplayer.

My parents are....seasoned. My father used to listen to the games on the radio and watch the film highlights on the Movietone news. He saw them both in their prime and he- a good judge of baseball talent and one hell of a ballplayer- even told me Rose was better.

Tell me, how many World Championships has moneyball delivered in the last 10 years?

Tell me, how many World Championships has moneyball delivered in the last 10 years?

You haven't read the book(I assume) and yet your debating it, It wasn't anything Billy b said it was The Author who said it and it came from a source, it's been proved that Defense only makes up 5# of the game.

Now you ask me what my basis of comparison is for, you don't like it when people are putting words in your mouth yet you can? I never said anything about The Defense in their ages I talked about Stadiums in rebuttal to what you said then you completely changed directions and said it was now the defense in their era's that effected their numbers. Why didn't you just say their defense was the key factor from the start.

Now going into Leadership qualities, unless I misread again you said Pure, If I remember A Pure hitter is a person who does just that hit's the ball in play and hits it often, basically right down to the word of hitter. So if were talking about A Pure Baseball player where does qualities and traits fall into that. Since when does his leadership qualities effect that person's skills at playing the game, absolutely nothing, Williams down to the bone runs laps around Rose, Who won The Greatest Player of all time tournament here just a few months back? I'm curious.

Why didn't you just say their defense was the key factor from the start.

Because a stadium's field and defense usually go hand-in-hand. Ted had that nice porch in right field and that Green Monster thing, Pete had a normal outfield at Riverfront. You can't defend a homerun or a ball off the wall, but the same ball at most other stadiums would be caught for an out. Defense is more important than 5% in the game, but Defense, as does the rest of the game, depends alot on the field.

Now going into Leadership qualities, unless I misread again you said Pure, If I remember A Pure hitter is a person who does just that hit's the ball in play and hits it often, basically right down to the word of hitter.

I never said a pure hitter Rune, I said a good Pure ballplayer is also a good leader. Rose was a good leader for his teams, Williams wasn't as good as Rose.

So if were talking about A Pure Baseball player where does qualities and traits fall into that. Since when does his leadership qualities effect that person's skills at playing the game, absolutely nothing, Williams down to the bone runs laps around Rose,

As we all should know, baseball is a game of inches, moments, pressure, and leadership. A good pure ballplayer (not including pitchers) is one who is able to succeed in diverse elements in defense, offense, psychology, physical natures. Baseball is a thinking man's sport.

I think we've debated everything that we could on this, so I posted this question on A Phillies Forum, I would have posted it also on a Reds Forums but I'm not signed up on any.

So I posted this thread on a Phillies forum, thinking their should obviously be some Pete Rose Bias considering he help The Phils win their only title.

Their may just be a few posts right now but you can check back.

I find it amazing that an original 1880's NL teams has won one World Series Championship, while an 11 year old NL expansion child has won two World Series Championships.

Rune, calling in the backup already? I guess this debate is over.

No Cape, it's simply called Proving a point, you have a group that's biased towards ROse and yet so far all have agreed that Williams is better. You just simply want to ignore all facts and change the subjects multiple times.

I said that A bigger stadium would help and all of a sudden you turn to different subject now it's on Defense.

You said Pure meaning who was the best player on the field, A Pure Baseball player is who has the best skills overall, not adding in other facts like Desire to win, leadership and all that other stuff.

Come on Cape, tell me even if the defense was superior in Rose's era, than how would that make up the huge gap between their averages in the seasons of their careers. If Rose played in Fenway, he would hit 400 or in the high 300's at the end of his career. Rose doesn't hold a candel if you want to quit this debate go ahead but if you continue stop telling me that his leadership skills determine who had the better skills.

Where do The Marlins come into play in terms of Pete Rose.

Did Pete Rose play for the marlins.

Stop changing the subjects in order to try to make this personal.
