Where could Montreal go?

Well the saga of the Montreal Expos should be over in 2005 as they are finally relocated. Here is some info on potential sites that MLB is looking at, of course new ballparks would have to likely be built for all the suitors.

The Suitors List

Washington, D.C./Northern Virginia - RFK Memorial Stadium

Portland, OR - PG&E Park

New Orleans, LA - Louisiana SuperDome

Monterrey, Mexico - Monterrey Stadium

No Pictures Found

San Juan, Puerto Rico - Hiram Bithorn Stadium

Las Vegas, NV - Cashman Stadium

San Antonio/Austin, TX - Wolff Stadium

Who knows when it will end? Probably whenever they think they sucked the last dollar out of the DC group bid.

Then again with Vlad and Vazquez gone it's not like MLB has any need for the Expos any more. They don't have the players to dangle for trade and bring down the free agent market.

Why? Portland doesn't even support their minor league franchises. The DC suburbs have more than enough baseball fans with enough income to win awards for their three area minor league teams (Bowie, Potomac, Frederick), so I don't see how they wouldn't pack a stadium in DC (don't forget the high bids for luxury boxes by many lobbyists), and fill-in a section or two of Camden Yards. Every since the late 90s it's been said that Orioles attendance have grown from the Baltimore area and shrunk from the DC area. Still the Orioles have maintained healthy attendance numbers throughout.

Las Vegas is a tourist destination, and thier minor league team suffers. Good ballpark though. Not that matters. Any town the Expos move to Selig and MLB is going to demand a new stadium.
