September 29, 20232 yr Miami's 2023 regular season will come to a close with a three-game set in Pittsburgh beginning on Friday. The Marlins will enter Friday's game with possession of a Wild Card spot, and are coming off an odd series in New York. Thursday's series finale against the Mets was suspended, following a lengthy rain delay. Miami had been trailing 1-0 entering the ninth inning, but pulled ahead 2-1 before play was stopped. The Marlins have two runners on and two outs, with the game scheduled to resume on Monday afternoon. Miami sits a half-game ahead of the Chicago Cubs for the final playoff spot, while also being 1.5 games back of Arizona for the second Wild Card position. The Cubs will be in Milwaukee this weekend, while the Diamondbacks will host the Houston Astros. Edward Cabrera will get the start in Friday's series opener and he is coming off a fine outing against the Brewers a week ago. Cabrera hurled five innings of one-run ball, in a game which Miami came away 6-1 winners. Cabrera is 7-7 with a 4.22 E.R.A in 2023 and this will be his last regular season start. The 25-year old has struck out 115 batters across 96 innings, while walking 63. Miami has not announced starters for Saturday or Sunday as of yet. If Sunday's game proves necessary for Miami, the team could turn to Braxton Garrett on short rest. Saturday's outing may be yet another bullpen themed game for the team, as it remains short on arms down the stretch. Luis Arraez's status for the series is a question mark as well. Arraez took batting practice on Thursday in New York, but did not see any action in the game. Miami's All-Star is continuing to battle an ankle sprain, but was reportedly available off the bench in Thursday's game against the Mets.
