June 5, 20251 yr When the bases are empty, Sandy has allowed a slash line of .172/.259/.320/.579. This is roughly in line with his numbers in his 2022 Cy Young campaign. The problem is he is allowing a slash line of .400/.470/.589/1.060 with runners on. This is why some of the peripheral metrics like FIP look so much better than the actual ERA. He is disproportionately playing worse when it will hurt him more. I got to thinking. Is he tipping his pitches? Like, in a way that only a baserunner will be able to pick up and then relay to the batter? Has anyone seen anything? Or maybe he tips his pitches when he is in the stretch, but not from the windup. Has he changed his mechanics in the strech? What do you folks think?
