cabs had a phenomenal rookie year. most ball players can only dream to have a rookie season that good at the age of 20. there's no doubt in my mind that he's going to be the next manny.

 

vlad is a different kind of player. he's a spectacular physical specimen who is loaded up in every tool. power, average, fielding, arm strength, and speed. there aren't too many players out there who can complete the package (even if it's not all that important).

 

cabs can max at power, average, and arm strength. his glove is good, but he will always be very slow. again, it's not such a big deal, but he'll never be as good as vlad.

Overall? No but offensively ? I think so...

I think the original posters intention wasnt to get into a Vlad v. Cabs debate but to bring a little optimism into the sadness of not getting Vlad. For me with Cabs, I feel the way Expos fans must have felt during Vlads rookie season-we have a special ball player on our hands. In that sense Cabs is ahead of Vlad(I think thats what the original poster was trying to say though I could be wrong), not in the type of hitter but just the probability that he becomes a star, based on his rookie year. I for one am looking forward to it.
