El duque-maels rodriguez....

Featured Replies

Free agent Orlando Hernandez threw just 75-78 mph during his workout yesterday.

El Duque, who missed all of last season after shoulder surgery, said he was about 85 percent. He's probably not going to get many offers based on the showing. If he wants a guaranteed deal, he'll have to build up some arm strength and then throw for scouts again. Source: New York Times

Cuban defector Maels Rodriguez didn't reach 90 mph yesterday in his workout in front of scouts.

It's likely that Rodriguez's velocity will increase as he gets further into his throwing program, but what he did yesterday won't help his stock. Although he didn't rule out a future bid, Mariners GM Bill Bavasi said he wouldn't make Rodriguez an offer based on the workout. Source: Seattle Times

Damn 75mph only?? Forget him hes defintely not worth it then, too big of a risk.

Maels Rodriguez sounds better but we probably wont be able to afford him. I'm happy with our pitching staff anyways. Not everyteam has to have a good 5th starter, we can survive a month or so without one until Burntett comes back.

Beckett

Penny

Pavano

Willis

Wayne, Tejera, Phelps

Good enough for me.

No but el duque will throw quicker, just watch little by little it will go up,he just needs some arm strength.Probably he will workout some more and he will hit 85 anytime soon.

Damn i wish i could work out with el duque then next year in tryouts i'll be pitching in the 90's....hehehehehe...

Doesn't sound good for us. We would need Orlando at the beginning of the season....and he likely won't be ready until later. Better to look elsewhere. :thumbdown

wow his top speed was only 78 mph. but yea he is coming off of arm surgery. but it still seems a big risk. and yea like someone stated before we need him at the beginning of the season and not later on. so we can either look elsewhere or stay with what we have. we can switch off with tejera and phelps. tommy phelps pitched very well at times as a starter.

Guys, he was just throwing slow because he doesnt want to rush back. You expect 90 MPH? He will tear his arm off after he hasnt throw for the past 2 or 3 months.

Maels should keep hiding that speed so we can sign him, and then he brings the gas!

duque is not just coming off of shoulder surgery.

he had surgery in may of last year and they expected his rehab to take a few months.

it is now 2004 and this guy still can't reach 80mph.

he's 38 years old. stick a fork in duque, he's done.
