Who thinks that this is a freedom of speech issue

Featured Replies

CBS has chosen not to run an ad made by MoveOn.org, a liberal group that will do anything to get Bush out of office. In the ad children are working in an attempt to say that they will be the one's who pay for the deficit created by the Bush administration. I have no problem with the ad itself and if other networks want to run it that is up to them. However, CBS clearly has the right to not show the ad just as they do with an ad that is or ful. Lcyberlina believes that this is a freedom of speech issue but I beg to differ as CBS has the right to choose what runs on their network. Please let me know your opinions.

It is not a freedom of speech issue first and foremost because the government is not the one barring the playing of the commercial. If it was, then there would be a legitimate protest.

The fact of the matter is that this isn't a freedom move, it is a business move. And just as advertisers have every right to say what they want when they do an ad, channels have every right to put whatever they want on the air. CBS can choose to air another ad if they want, it is their business. I'm sure if you were a business executive and you were going to lose money and take alot of heat for letting something like this pass through your system, you would stop it as well.

if other networks want to run it that is up to them.

The thing is CBS is buying up all of the airways, which is another unjust move. So now the chances of this ad getting out are getting smaller and smaller. Which is not fair.

People have to hear 2 sides of the story. Just because CBS is Pro-Bush does not give them the right to not air an anti-bush ad. This is not a buisness issue.

CBS paid a lot of $$$ to get the NFL and the Masters golf tournament and if they dont want controversy (liberal commercial, protests at the Masters) overshadowing the event, they have the right to do so

also, (my opinion) i really would not want that liberal garbage during the super bowl

if other networks want to run it that is up to them.

People have to hear 2 sides of the story. Just because CBS is Pro-Bush does not give them the right to not air an anti-bush ad. This is not a buisness issue. CBS would never, ever air a pro-bush or anti-democrat political advertisement during the super bowl.

the moveon ad (if you watched it) is an anti-bush political advertisement. CBS has every right to refuse to air something that will inflame its viewers.

when CBS sets the cost for 30 seconds of air time and they have more than enough companies willing to pay for a super bowl ad, they can pick and choose what their viewership would prefer to see. this is entirely a business issue.

CBS is not just showing one side of the story here. no republican campaign advertisement has ever aired during the super bowl. why should a democrat one air? if i'm not mistaken, that would be portraying one side of the story...

ive said it before, ill say it now

cbs paid a lot for the nfl and the super bowl and they have the right to put on whatever commercial they want
