homophobia (in men) is in large part a result of machismo and boyhood experiences while growing up.

it might be easier to answer the question if you define "homophobia" since the way i think of the word, it isn't so much a "fear" of gays as much as it is an aversion to homosexuality in general.

gay-bashers can be called homophobes. a guy who is afraid a particular shirt makes him look gay can also be called a homophobe.

fear of being identified with homosexuality is, imo, a huge consequence of growing up (for males). growing up, gay jokes are all over the place and it's an insult to call someone gay. constantly being exposed to that while growing up is probably a big reason why grown men are afraid that certain clothes or mannerisms might associate them with homosexuality.

a lot of it is the adult manifestation of the boyhood dislike and embarrassment for being called gay. being against gayness can make a guy feel more manly and socially superior.

It's their choice of lifestyle.

I used to have homophobia, but the operation last year cleared it up.

I don't fault those types of people because as zoid very scientifically said its just a product of experience and how they were raised. Regardless its still extremely ignorant.

I just wrote about gay marriage at my site.

Its just a classic case of people not liking people like themselves.

Are you inferring that people that are not for gay marriage or homophobic?

yes. There's no other reason.

i disagree but you know my opinion and i am not going to ruin this thread with an argument about this.
