March 8, 200422 yr I was thinking about states rights vs the federal government and my mind wandered to the 2000 election. If you truly believe in states rights wouldn't Al Gore be president right now? QUESTION.
March 8, 200422 yr Taken as a stand alone question possibly, but rarely are candidates elected on one issue soley. And as I have said very many times before, President Bush does not speak for the Conservatives. He's just a moderate as far as Im concerned.

March 9, 200422 yr The Supreme Court, a federal body, overruled a state judiciary. It has done that many, many times. I do not recall any judges having retired while W was in office, so the change in president wouldn't have matter (I might be mistaken on there being no retirees, however).
March 9, 200422 yr Actually you can look at the 2000 election and say that if there were fewer states rights than gore would have won because the electoral college is a states rights institution. Without the electoral college, gore wins. I'm glad the electoral college is in place.

Im trying to show how the 2000 election stepped on states rights and you are telling me about the electoral college? Maybe I wasnt clear... If you are a proponent for states rights (even when it doesnt serve your interests) wouldn't Al gore be president right now?
March 9, 200422 yr the state system should be abolished or the national bureacracy MUST be reduced to pre civil war levels. I say kill the states.
March 9, 200422 yr If you are a proponent for states rights (even when it doesnt serve your interests) wouldn't Al gore be president right now? i still dont understand how states rights would have changed the outcome of the election. al gore didn't have as many votes as dubya... gore couldn't have won the election, regardless of the supreme court.

If the state supreme court's decision was unhindered then Gore would have won Florida and thus the election. Right? Unless Im totally wrong...it just kinda popped in my head and I thought it was interesting. The federal body overruled the state body...
March 10, 200422 yr im pretty sure they reviewed the votes and all possible outcomes (using hanging chads, etc.) and Bush would have one in like 7 of the 8 possible outcomes.

Gore LOST! Get over it. And you claim to be conservative? I'm fiscally conservative. I don't subscribe to any party line.
