These guys have been scouted heavily for the last couple of years. Sometimes they get it wrong but first base??

You pick the next best player. If you end up with too many pitchers then you trade him for a bat. You don't pick a #60 ranked first baseman for the 12th pick. Loria clearly picked him to save money.
