I think most people in this thread fail to realize what a big deal Lowell is. He has a huge negative trade value. No one (that's not one single team in all of major league baseball) would accept him and his contract if the Marlins would give him away. This trade has a huge impact financially and no one is really taking that into account. If the O's are taking all of Lowell's contract, the Marlins should be thanking their lucky stars that they are also getting a prospect as good as Hayden Penn. The kid is going to be an excellent pitcher. I've seen both Penn and McCarthy pitch and I was more impressed with Penn. Julio is a nice bullpen arm and Bigbie is better than most people are giving him credit for. As a Red Sox fan, I was hoping that we could land Burnett, but the insistence on taking Lowell's contract was a deal breaker.

Can't you guys snip those quotes? This thread is getting tough to read. And there's no way The Sox are going to trade Arroyo and Hanley for Burnett. Burnett is good, but he really isn't that much better than Arroyo when you come right down to it.

I suppose when the Red Sox make a trade before the deadline (which of course they will considering the lack of a #1 starter, the weak bullpen and the overpowering stench on the right side of the infield), you can say you told me so. And I hope you feel good about yourself afterwards.

There is no trade in the works between Boston and Florida. We are working on something with a couple other teams but everything needs to fall in place before anything is announced. But I can confirm it does not involve Florida. 859300[/snapback] You can't confirm s***.
