MARLINS UPDATE

Posted March 13 2004

Tonight's opponent: Houston Astros at Foro Sol Stadium, Mexico City, 6:05 p.m.

Pitching plans: LHP Darren Oliver will make his third Grapefruit League appearance and second start. RHP Roger Clemens, who un-retired since walking off the mound to a standing ovation in Game 4 of the World Series at Pro Player Stadium, will start for the Astros. Also pitching for the Marlins will be RHP Mike Neu, RHP Nate Bump and LHP Franklyn Gracesqui.

Worth noting: Every member of the Marlins' projected Opening Day lineup will make the trip except for 3B Mike Lowell, who is sidelined with an elbow injury. Also staying behind are pitchers Armando Benitez, Josh Beckett, Carl Pavano, Brad Penny and A.J. Burnett. On Sunday, Penny will pitch in a simulated game on the Roger Dean practice fields. Kevin Cave, Scott Sanders, Aaron Small, Ronald Belisario and Mike Flannery will also toss. ... The Marlins are the home team tonight. The designated hitter will be used during the series. ... ESPN's reality show Dream Job, which shot scenes during Thursday's Marlins-Twins game, will air Sunday night at 10 on ESPN. ... Left-handed reliever Matt Perisho, who's battling for a situational left-handed relief role with Michael Tejera, Tommy Phelps and Gracesqui, struck out two and allowed one hit in one inning. Tejera had an easy first inning, before pitching out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth.

Broadcast: None.
