March 18, 200422 yr Marlins cut eight players By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com JUPITER, Fla. -- Left-handed reliever Franklyn Gracesqui has shown promise this spring with good movement on his fastball. The 24-year-old just needs a bit more seasoning before being Major League ready. The Marlins on Thursday made eight roster moves, including optioning Gracesqui to Triple-A Albuquerque. Right-handed reliever Mike Flannery also was optioned to Triple-A. In addition, the Marlins sent right-handed pitchers David Manning and Aaron Small and catcher Dennis Anderson to minor league camp. Right-handed pitcher Lincoln Holdzkom was optioned to Class A Jupiter. Right-handed pitchers Ronald Belisario and Kevin Cave were optioned to Double-A Carolina. Gracesqui was in the mix for a left-handed reliever spot. The Dominican native was selected as a Rule 5 pick from Toronto in 2002. If he keeps progressing, he could see action with the Marlins this season. The competition for the Marlins left-handed relievers is down to veteran Michael Tejera, who had his best outing of the spring on Wednesday against the Dodgers, Tommy Phelps and Matt Perisho. http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/...4news&fext=.jsp
