Marlins cut eight players

By Joe Frisaro / MLB.com

JUPITER, Fla. -- Left-handed reliever Franklyn Gracesqui has shown promise this spring with good movement on his fastball. The 24-year-old just needs a bit more seasoning before being Major League ready.

The Marlins on Thursday made eight roster moves, including optioning Gracesqui to Triple-A Albuquerque. Right-handed reliever Mike Flannery also was optioned to Triple-A.

In addition, the Marlins sent right-handed pitchers David Manning and Aaron Small and catcher Dennis Anderson to minor league camp.

Right-handed pitcher Lincoln Holdzkom was optioned to Class A Jupiter. Right-handed pitchers Ronald Belisario and Kevin Cave were optioned to Double-A Carolina.

Gracesqui was in the mix for a left-handed reliever spot. The Dominican native was selected as a Rule 5 pick from Toronto in 2002. If he keeps progressing, he could see action with the Marlins this season.

The competition for the Marlins left-handed relievers is down to veteran Michael Tejera, who had his best outing of the spring on Wednesday against the Dodgers, Tommy Phelps and Matt Perisho.

well there goes my hope of not having Tejera as our lefty. meaning Franklyn Gracesqui has been optioned to AAA... at least for the time being
