March 26, 200422 yr Now we know the Marlins are trying to get 60 million from the state and Im optimistic that they will get it. Once you havea governer behind you, youre all set. We will just have to trust that Bush isnt playing politics and that he knows we need it sooner rather than later. But now Im wondering where the final 55 million will be coming from. Im sure the land needs to be donated by a county or something(does Dade county own land next to PPS?) for us to have a retractable roof and pay only 325 million. But now I see no more funding sources. We've hit the county, we've hit the the Marlins, we've hit the state, Miami seems next to impossible to get anything besides land. Any ideas?
March 26, 200422 yr maybe naming rights, i don't know if thats included in the $137,000,000. Maybe the Marlins could put a restaraunt like in Milwaukee, Toronto, Etc.
March 26, 200422 yr Author Id imagine they would have already said that they were including those things.
March 26, 200422 yr i guess we would just have to whore ourselves out. put ads on everything and of course naming rights. s***, name the field after one of those yard products if they have to
March 26, 200422 yr Author ugh, what if we had to do change the name? The Mountain Dew Hondas presented by Old Spice.
March 26, 200422 yr the mountain dew hondas present by Old Spice playing at Scotts turf at Home Depot park by 2007. damn, it aint pretty seriously though, you might see ads on jersey's like the Indians did and i believe the Reds did to. that would suck big time

March 26, 200422 yr The Marlins having ads for "The Rick Sanchez Show" on their jerseys is now an official Sign of the Apocalypse.
March 26, 200422 yr you might see ads on jersey's like the Indians did and i believe the Reds did to. I am pretty sure that is against the rules.
March 26, 200422 yr I don't mean to spoil anyone's parade, but no approval has come from the state yet. A bill hasn't been presented, and all that Jeb has said is that he likes the idea of keeping the Marlins. The president of the State Senate is still vehemently opposed to the funding, and the state is on an exceedingly tight budget this year. Don't get your hopes up too high about this news, I think that at this point the best thing we all can do is call our State Senate representative (for a lot of South Fla, it's Jeff Atwater), and state our desire to have a MLB franchise remain in Fla. But it is a step in the right direction...
March 26, 200422 yr What about an IPO? Could Loria take the team public and raise money through selling shares? Something similiar to the Celtics. Just a suggestion...not sure how realistic this could be. :mischief2
March 26, 200422 yr What about an IPO? Could Loria take the team public and raise money through selling shares? Something similiar to the Celtics. Just a suggestion...not sure how realistic this could be. :mischief2 Not until the situation with the (Montreal) minority investors is resolved which is getting in the way of the Marlins doing ballpark financing as well. My guess is that a public offering, now or in the future, is not in the cards for the Fish. Too much work and subsequent SEC reporting regs for too little money. If they can rid themselves of the minority owners litigation they can then sell a minority interest to either an individual or an investment group in a private transaction that will most likely fill any funding gap they may have. I doubt naming rights will be used for anything other than debt service. You have to keep in mind that the $325 million is a contruction figure cost, the debt service (@ 3% interest rate) is about 17 million a year (principal and interest). Without a significant downpayment, financing the $325 mil will cost around $510 mil over 30 years. The Marlins are only committing $4.5 million a year, the county $2.5 per year and if they get lucky with the State another $2 million. That's $9 million. So it's easy to see where naming rights are going.
March 26, 200422 yr What about an IPO? Could Loria take the team public and raise money through selling shares? Something similiar to the Celtics. Just a suggestion...not sure how realistic this could be. :mischief2 Ummm, I know the Celtics and Packers sold "stock", but it's really a tongue in cheek method of raining money, In order to get around the SEC, both teams issued stock that wasn't transferable, carried no voting rights and was not redeemable. Essentially they got a piece of paper saying they owned a share, which really wasn't a share anyway. So, it's not even stock. Now, if you tried to initiate an IPO for real, the SEC wouldn't let you get the idea off the ground. Why? Our good old friend Mr. Anti-trust regulation. Kinda hard to justify taking a monopoly public, even if the monopoly is legal.
