Magglio Ordo?ez - OF - CWS Apr. 17 - 9:24 am et

Magglio Ordonez, 30, is seeking five years and $70 million for his next contract.

Ordonez is in the final year of his current deal, but says he'd prefer to stay in Chicago. If he's willing to accept a deal similar to the four-year, $48 million contract Garret Anderson signed with the Angels, he just might remain with the Sox. Asked if he would give the Sox a hometown discount, Mags said, "It's hard to say right now. I'd have to think about it. This is where I want to be so, hopefully, we'll work out something."

The Yankees will pay big for him or Beltran. Beltran WILL drive up the market price, so if I were him I would wait it out.

Why? With Lofton probably traded away/4th OF, Sheffield's range deteriorating daily and bernie no longer being capable of being a CF, it seems only obvious that the yankees will most definitely go after a big league OF superstar.

This will drive up their prices, so at least feigning interest with the yanks would be a smart business move. I expect Bernie to become a 1B/LF type and share DH duties with Giambi. Eventually, Posada will have to make the move to first too, but the yankees never plan far ahead.

Matsui has only 2 years left on his contract, so depneding on what happens with williams, giambi and posada would be able to share 1st base and make room for Dioneer Navarro.

Beltran road ops 2001-2003=.835...that's pretty much someone who will perform a lot worse than alfonso soriano, someone the yankees thought "was a drain" on the lineup.

Magglio's road OPS 2001-2003=.938

In all likelihood his numbers will drop like a rock when he meets the yankees left field, but offensively he seems like a better guarentee than beltran. Of course, Beltran in 3 years younger, will have less of a problem being a switch hitter, and nabs bags (and is a great defensive OFer to boot.)

Ya right. You know Navaro will be traded. :D

I sincerely hope not.

He's probably gone for vidro this summer. Him, proctor, and crosby. Book it. Why proctor isn't in the bigs now with heredia (and quantrill???) entering the DL is beyond me. Hell, I would rather have him up than depaula or that crappy lefty guy (not gabe white...)
