I was wondering what Harold Reynolds was talking about when he was saying the small market teams could afford players like Beltran but choose not to spend the money. Kruk's point made a lot more since than this point.

Harold was right. They could sign their best players, but that would mean less for the role players the Royals depend on. I think Harold may have been lashing out against the Pirates and Brewers for selling every one.

Harold is right. To give an example, the Cubs, which are owned by that famous Chicago newspaper(I want to say Tribune, but I could be wrong), admit they hold back cash....they like to keep the Cubs as they are, small budget.
