May 30, 200323 yr only thing that bothers me about trading Lee is that we all know he is going to be a star once he leaves teal. So trade him outside the division. :plain

May 30, 200323 yr Yes, I believe he will be a star. There is almost no pressure to perform in south florida and I think guys with Lee's whispy disposition have the habit of lacking focus. Once he is traded and playing in front of larger crowds with a larger fan interest he will be a monster. Just my opinion. :plain

June 2, 200323 yr Author I fully understand that a lot of our problems are not related to Loria and his goons. Baseball is in shambles right now. The sport is being wrecked by the leadership, something is wrong when only a handful of teams can legitimately contend every year. Almost every city has a newish ballpark, and still attendance to baseball games in most cities is terrible. In some ways this is a sign of our culture (i.e. a million other things to do), but I think Selig has done nothing to help the situation. If Loria and co. were really committed to winning, wouldn't they go out on a limb a little. Does anyone in their right mind believe baseball in S. Fla will succeed without Lowell, Castillo, and Lee next year?? Who will come to the games?? If they want to make it work, they will not let Lowell leave. I think we can understand Castillo and Lee, but losing Lowell will hurt the fans a lot. If it were me, and I honestly wanted to make baseball in S. Fla work, I would take on a loss initially in the hopes of re-establishing a fan base. We will not even keep our few fans now if Lowell is traded. The point of my post was that you guys seem way too trusting of our FO. Besides talk, what have they done to convince us that they care about winning in S. Florida?? There is no way we can keep the roster intact next year, due in part to mismanagement with contracts. Who wants to watch a team of fill-ins every year?? If this one-year contract bullsh!t is the system they plan on using, nobody will watch. I think it's clear something fishy went on with regards to Burnett. The team knew more than he did, at the very least they should have let him know. These types of things lead all our players to lack trust in our management. The last 2 offseasons they have pretty much publicly dangled Penny around. Baseball is a business, I understand that, but trade talks need to be done privately. How do you think Penny feels about a future with the fish?? If I was him I'd leave the first chance I got. With Torborg and Arnsberg, they may have needed to go, but the way they went about it was very classless, which may be the best adjective for our FO. They have little class in any venture they engage in. Whether losing or winning, it's nice to have a team with players that you feel like you know. We have been watching these guys for a long time, and it looks like very few will be back next year. We needed a south florida guy who would be willing to make baseball work. I don't foresee baseball in south florida much longer if Loria makes these moves. i gaurantee our attendance will be cut in half.

IMO.. King George is the only real (baseball) owner out there now... we blame him for everything and all but has he ever complained about losing money? He's pays to win... if owners were like that.. there would be more competition in the sport of baseball... In the end.. baseball is a business...
June 2, 200323 yr Author vinivedivichi, baseball is a business.. if an owner really cared about his team.. they wouldn't be worried about losing some money to win... I would think that keeping players to build a fan base would be a good business decision to a person who is committed to south florida. If Loria really expects to stay in Miami I would think he realizes fans will not support different players each year. I have doubts about his commitment.
