May 10, 200422 yr Of those that mentioned only Castro has value, because catchers spend more time in the minors to hone their craft. Phelps is a journeyman minor leaguer. Nunez is well on his way if he doesn't produce off the bench this season. Gracesqui has little upside.
May 10, 200422 yr Marlins get: John Riedling, Jason Kendall Reds get: Ramon Castro, Abraham Nunez, Brian Meadows, Josh Fogg Pirates get: Javier Valentin, Franklyn Gracesqui, Darren Oliver, Cory Lidle, Tommy Phelps, Wily Mo Pena !!! EDIT: BEFORE ANYONE SAYS ANYTHING, I KNOW IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN I actually think this deal hurts us. Who would be our #5 til AJ comes back? Plus, you are trading away 2 bullpen arms and only getting 1 back in return. Who are you going to replace the other with? Kendall would help us at the C position though, but his salary is another issue altogether. I dont think the C position is as bad as it seems. I think Castro will come around and Red will do fine in the interim. Riedling though would be a good trade, but what would the Reds want for him? No, this deal would 0wn for us. Call up Tejera, Borland, and Neu. Wayne = #5 starter until AJ back. When AJ is back, send down the one who's doing worse. (Tejera, Borland, Neu) It's perfect I'm telling you! But the problem is Tejera is getting lit up like Christmas lights were on sale at Target and Neu is on the DL because of elbow problems. Borland would be the only one having the impact now.
