May 14, 200422 yr courtesy of albuquerquebaseball.com Padgett Slams 'Topes To 9-1 Win May 13, 2004 - Matt Padgett's grand slam, his third homer in the past two games, provided all the runs that the Albuquerque Isotopes would need in defeating the Salt Lake Stingers 9-1. Padgett's shot to right field in the third inning scored Admin Sutton, who had walked, Brian Banks, and Mike Colangelo, both who had singled. It was the second grand slam of the month and of the season for Albuquerque, the first one occuring on May 2 by Colangelo againt the Iowa Cubs. The Isotopes added a single run in the fifth when Sutton singled home Drew Niles, who had doubled to start the inning. In the sixth inning Kevin Hooper became the first player in Isotopes history to steal home, as he and Wilson Valdez executed a double steal, making the score 6-0. Salt Lake finally got on the board in the bottom of the inning, scoring their lone run of the evening. Albuquerque added three more runs in the eighth as Matt Treanor, who had singled, scored on a wild pitch. After a walk to Niles, Sutton singled to right, scoring Valdez, who had singled earlier. Banks then doubled home Niles to complete the scoring. Isotopes starter Michael Tejera picked up his third win of the season, going seven strong innings and giving up four hits without giving up an earned run while walking two and striking out five. Good to see Tejera pitch well, it puts some added pressure on Oliver. Sutton and Padgett continue to hit well also. In AA Carolina lost 5-4, but it looks like Willingham's finding his stroke going 3-4 with a double and 2 rbis.
May 14, 200422 yr Admin Sutton's numbers this year are terrific. Yes the PCL is known as a hitters league but nonetheless .389 and 11 HRs is a h*lluva performance. Sutton is no Robert Stratton. He not only has hit the long ball, he's also hitting for average and driving in runs. Sutton, who at 33 and several years of limited MLB play is certainly no prospect but if he keeps this up he may be a prime tradebait candidate come July.

That's just ridiculous.
May 14, 200422 yr If the Marlins do trade Cordero at mid-season perhaps Sutton will get a callup. One would think Conine would start platooning at first thus making room for someone to be called up. Padgett looks great both offensively and defensively. Sutton's problem is he's another lefthander like Choi.

Sutton's problem is he's another lefthander like Choi. Chris Aguila has hit well this year, I think he would get the call-up before Padgett. If we do end up trading Abe Nunez, I think Aguila will get the call. We also can't forget about Banker, because he could get hot also and probably has the upper hand on getting called up since he played on the team last year.

'Topes Outlast Stingers In 10, 11-10 May 14, 2004 - Admin Sutton continued his torrid hitting, as his home run in the 10th inning lifted the Albuquerque Isotopes over the Salt Lake Stingers by the score of 11-10. Sutton now leads the PCL in five offensive categories and is in second place in three others. Salt Lake struck first with a run in the first before Albuquerque erupted in the third. Matt Treanor started things off, scoring Chris Aguila, who had doubled to open the inning, on a sacrifice fly. Following singles by Wilson Valdez and Drew Niles, Mike Colangelo hammered his sixth home run of the season, a blast to left field. Matt Padgett then walked and Jason Wood singled to center. Chris Ashby brought home Padgett with a single to center and Aguila followed with a single to right to score Wood. The 'Topes wound up sending 12 men to the plate in the inning and scored six runs on seven hits, both season highs. Salt Lake responded with two in the bottom of the inning to cut their defecit to 6-3. Albuquerque scored twice more in the fifth, as Aguila hit a triple which scored Ashby, who had singled. Treanor then smacked a homer to left, scoring Aguila to make the score 9-3. Salt Lake then had their big inning, scoring six runs in the fifth to tie the score 9-9. The Stingers then took the lead in the sixth with a single run before the 'Topes tied the game in the bottom of the ninth on Aguila's second double of the night, scoring pinch runner Kevin Hooper. Aguila wound up going 4-5 with two runs, three extra base hits and three RBI. Sutton then came up in the first extra frame to put the 'Topes up for good with his 12th home run of the season. Isotopes starter Aaron Small had his second straight rough outing, giving up nine runs on eleven hits in four and a third innings. Ben Howard picked up his second win of the season in relief going one and two-thirds innings, and Mike Flannery earned his first-ever PCL save, striking out two and allowing just one hit in one inning of work. Aguila is now hitting .350. He could take over the reserve outfield spot if Abe Nunez gets traded. It was an ugly night for the Mudcats last night though. They Lost 10-0 as Cardinals prospect Brad Thompson continued his streak of scoreless innings to 52 innings, dating back from last year. :o

May 15, 200422 yr It's a shame Lenny Harris won't take a role as coach or official dugout cheerleader (if Bonds can have his nutritionists and college stars can have their pseudo-agents, why can't JP and D-Train have their friend and former teammate?), because Sutton is a lefthander that can actually hit and still play the field.

May 17, 200422 yr Author Mike Nannini went 7 innings today fo the topes, giving up only 1 run and 5 hits. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for Mike because he had been struggling.
May 17, 200422 yr I've been re-thinking Admin Sutton's situation. If a roster spot does open up without there being a trade involved (Lenny Harris being cut at the end of the month), it has occured to me that Admin and his homerun bat (albeit in minor league parks off minor league pitchers) might find a place on the Marlins bench. He does play first, is lefty and he's hitting an insane .380. He's been in the bigs before without tremendous success but he does know what MLB is all about. His other numbers are equally good including 12 HRs, 33 rbi. I'd take 8-10 pinch-hit home runs over the rest of the season from him and be happy he's on our bench. My guess is in the end Jack (the Marlins) keeps Lenny and all this ruminating will be for naught.
May 17, 200422 yr The Bats won 12-2 today and now have won two straight. I changed the wallpaper on my computer yesterday before the game to the mascot Casey the Bat and they won two straight. Anyways, my boy J.M. Nickerson went 4.1 scoreless innings but had to come out when he got hit with a line drive(in the hand i think).

I was at the game last night and he didn't play, but he was warming up the left fielder between innings, so his injury can't be too serious. Olsen pitched and his stuff looked good despite giving up 5 earned. A lot of balls were hit to the third baseman, and a good third baseman would have gotten them. Ezi also looked pretty impressive. Too bad Hermida didn't play, he was who I was looking forward to seeing...
