g8trz2003
i just want to know where this new "punk" (New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, etc.) get their fake British accents from. Well, hell...even Green Day and stuff like that. Why the fake british accent.

Shamrock
The bands you listed above suck so bad I can't even begin. Thats not punk. I wouldn't even label it pop-punk because the crappy genre they created doesn't even deserve the word punk in it. Crap. Dookie. Suck. Shamrock
Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros - Coma Girl (one of my favorite new bands) Social Distortion - Mommy's Little Monster (another band I'm high on) Schlong - Barney (funny name and funny lyrics)
Shamrock
Ted Leo/Pharmacists - The Ballad of the Sin Eater The Daughters of the Revolution - Shimmy (good local Gainesville punk band)
g8trz2003
throw in Less Than Jake, NOFX, AFI, etc. They call themselves punk....i just wanna know why the hell they use fake british accents. It pisses me off. reminds me of a Drive-By Truckers song ("Outfit") where it says "dont sing with a fake british accent".....kinda obvious as to why it reminded me of that song, i suppose. Amen Shamrock. :notworthy If you want to hear the origins of British Punk go listen to Never Mind the Bollocks by the Sex Pistols. It is to early punk what Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album was to pop. Violent Femmes aren't a bad place to start either.

No idea. NOFX and AFI rock though. And I've seen Less Than Jake probably 10 times in Gainesville. Their songs tend to all sound the same, but I still enjoy the band. Actually the cool thing about some of these bands is that they are Southerners and ahve southern accents. Punk singing with a southern accent is very interesting. Well, hell...even Green Day and stuff like that. Why the fake british accent. It's a holdover from their days as glorified garage bands playing Sex Pistols covers. Or is that Green Day's covers of the Sex Pistols? Nice, Sham. I see you were listening to Ted Leo, ever heard his old band Chisel? I suggest Grey Matter.
