What is with the free Conine crap?

Conine is my favorite Marlin, but we all know he comes on later in the season. He is being benched to try and kick start Nu?ez and then Conine will jump start and viola, we have to hot hitters.

Cmon Cape!

We are just trying to push McKeon to put Conine 3rd in the lineup - we think he would be more beneficial there than 6,7 or lower. I agree he comes on later in the year, but that is because that is when the pennant race starts to heat up. If you put him in clutch situations now he will get hot now.

If you want to platoon him with Abe, then do it. Dont play around with it. Jack hasnt gotten it set straight yet and as a result Conine AND Abe are confused. I like Nunez and think he could hit .260 15HR platooning. Just give him consistent looks.

Conine is waiting to explode though. YOu put him 3 and you will see....

Basically Jonnylons summed it up.

We need Conine to contribute. He's getting consistent contact with the ball. Few strike outs, a lot of line drives. However he only pitches he's getting are on the outside half of the plate which because he has never had opposite field power all he can do with is hope it drops safely somewhere. If you move him up he'll turn on pitches inside and put them into the seats and if they pitch him outside JP and Luiy open up holes on the left side of the field.

why do you want to see Conine in the 3 spot??? What makes you so sure he'll do a better job there than Cabs is?

Cabrera hitting 6? Yeah, right.

jp

castillo

conine

lowell

cabrera

he would hit 4th or 5th not 6th rferry's signature had Cabrera hitting 6th.

Cabrera leads us in so many offensive categories and right now, A-Gon is a better hitter than Conine so why don't we have him hit 3rd?

I'm all for it

I have actually been wanting to see that lately I dont think Jack is going to think of that...

I mean AGON has just been hott as of late...but if you put the whole season together he hasnt been that good

so it would probably work out now, but when AGON starts hitting bad again than its going to be bad

Again, it's not whose better or worse. It's about getting the best out of everyone. Conine can't do anything with outside pitches and stationary runners so you move him between Luiy and Lowell. Cabrera doesn't need much protection, he can lift balls low and outside into the seats. And Choi sandwiching between Lowell and Cabrera would see fewer lefty specialists and more fastballs.

It is good to see that I am not crazy and that others understand this situation.

Basically, what Rferry has said is right, in my opinion. Conine makes contact. I dont think he has great power, no, but he is capable of hitting 18+HRs. Fudge only hit 16 last year from the 3 spot - but his RISP was very good. Conine's, counting this year's abyssmal RISP of .173+/-, is .299 over the last 3 years. I dont see any reason why he cant raise that over .300 hitting in the 3 spot.

Why?

Because it is a FACT that he will see better pitches hitting in front of Lowell than he would hitting 6 or 7 in front of Choi, AGon, or even the catching tandem.

Conine has no power to opposite field - but he does make contact and has the ability to hit the other way for hits. With JP or Castillo in front of him, the right side of the field will open up more as they hold JP/Castillo on base. This is why Fudge hit so well last season - he hit it the other way through the gaping hole. That is also why our 1-2 punch is a very effective weapon.

And remember, Conine doesnt have to get hits to get the job done - just put the ball in play. Drive it to RF and JP advances to 3rd. Conine has a greater chance of making contact than Cabrera. And Rferry is right on by saying that Cabrera doesnt need protection. He will hit 6th, as he did last year, or in any part of the lineup for that matter.

Now, I dont think you bat Cabs 6, you put him 5 right behind Lowell. Again, he is my proposed lineup:

JP

Castillo

Conine

Lowell

Cabs

Choi

Agon

Redmond/Treanor

P

Now, you could make the argument to put Red 3 or even AGon 2, but I dont think that is logical. Red is a great hitter to have at 8 and he and AGon working together is why AGon is starting to hit. First of all, AGon couldnt get anything to hit at the 8 spot - as I have screamed all season to move him up to 7. Red (and Treanor) have hit very well in the 8 spot and considering that they are catchers, it is better to hit them there to accumulate less ABs over the course of the season and keep them fresher.

Look, I could ramble on all day and night about this. I gurantee if you move Conine to 3 for a week, we will score more consistently and threaten offensively more consistently. It is about power at the 3 - it is about advancing runners and Conine has a better chance to do it at the 3 then lower in the lineup. And Rferry is right, Cabs will hit anywhere in that lineup. He is that good. Manchild...
