June 17, 200422 yr I realize DO has not been put into many pressure situations, but since going to the pen he has only allowed 1 ER (first batter faced, HR) in 8 innings pitched. ERA as a reliever 0.89. Doesn't look like he is out of Jack's dog house yet, but if he keeps this up, he will get more chances. Believe me, I was one of the most vocal for getting Oliver out of here. But with his last 8 innings of relief work, I'm curious to see if the pen is his true calling.
June 17, 200422 yr I think Oliver is a quality arm capable of helping out a team. I think the pen is a good fit for him and over time that will be seen.
June 17, 200422 yr He already blew a game in relief. His first outing form the BP. He gave up a game tying home run to Phillips. PWNED. That was the game Beckett left early because of his blister. Oliver didn't have much time to get loose and ready to come in. Remember Jose Contreras relieving David Wells in the World Series? Anyways Oliver then retired the next 4 batters he faced, got in trouble with heart of the Mets' lineup and was on pace for the win until Borland screwed things up. (By the way that was also another game McKeon brought in Bump with a runner on third and the infield forced to play in.) Why is that so many on this board have a favorite player that they support until the end but will never forget the mistakes of others? Players like Cabrera, Beckett and Willis who have yet to establish themselves like Lowell or Castillo can get away with so much crap and no one wants to point that out, but they'll be there to b*tch and moan when anyone else strikes out or grounds into a double play?
June 17, 200422 yr Now that you're all just thrilled that Bump is gone.....I hope you remember that Jackass Mckeon is still here. This is a guy who has NO idea how to use a bullpen. I wish your Marlins the best of luck but I am afraid that McKeon's history of ruining pitchers is coming true with the Marlins. Bump isn't the only one struggling. The Marlins have rough days ahead of them and won't be in first place for long. Enjoy it while you can!!! I hope Bump can turn it around but unfortunately the way MLB works, he is stuck in the Marlins system. :thumbdown
June 17, 200422 yr I sincerely hope Beckett's blister problems are over!! If not, then perhaps Bump will get a chance to come back as a starter?

He needs to learn taht to be a major league pitcher he needs to perform under pressure situations. A lot of the bullpen needs that too. DO has been alright....we'll see if he can keep it up. back on topic wooo woo Beckett coming back tomorrow
