June 29, 200422 yr I am with Rferry on this one. And if I may interpret that, I dont think a big bat is necessary. This team has all the talent it needs and is capable of winning the NL East AS IS. If Jack wasnt so proud, or just not aware, he would bat Conine 3. He is capable of replacing Fudge's last year numbers. Again, this team is scoring about 4.4 runs per game last I checked. Last season, we got 4.6. Not that big of a drop off when you consider talent wise, our pitching is much better. I dont think we need to make a big trade. We can make a couple of lineup changes to maximize performance and we are set.

Let me get this straight...the team that's six games under .500 since the eleventh game of the season doesn't need another bat? Whatever you guys say, I must be missing something. :banghead
June 29, 200422 yr He didn't say that. And I agree with Jonny that what is needed is some execution from our curent batters. Luiy isn't coming through in the clutch. Miggy and Conine have been horrible with runners in scoring position. Lowell has been pulling the ball too much. Pierre ain't running and McKeon's not asking anyone else too. I think we can play better with this cast, and it's not worth exposing the minor league system for a big bat because it's not going to fix much. There's no impact bat out there (don't fall for the Beltran and Finley hype) anyway. If anything the team needs to trade for is a lefty outfielder to come off the bench that might be able to platoon or take over for Conine if he can't get the job done.
