Brock Lesnar signs with Vikings

Brock Lesnar signs with Vikings for $325,000

its so on.

Better known to World Wrestling Entertainment fans as "The Next Big Thing," Lesnar signed a contract with the Vikings on Tuesday. The former NCAA heavyweight wrestling champion from Minnesota wants to win a spot on the defensive line. At 6-foot-3 and 286 pounds, the 27-year-old Lesnar has not played football since his senior year of high school in South Dakota.

Lesnar tried out for the Vikings in June. He had another workout with them on Tuesday.

After that workout a month ago, Lesnar said, "This isn't a publicity stunt."

"This is the real deal," he said then. "It's something I want to do. I don't want to wake up when I'm 50 years old and say I should have tried."

Scott Studwell, the Vikings' director of college scouting, was willing to give Lesnar another look.

"He is a project with a capital P," Studwell said in June. "He's got physical tools, but he has a long way to go."

The Vikings also signed guard Tam Hopkins. They released safety Ben Nauman and defensive tackle Jeff Womble.

As a wrestling fan, I found it shocking when Brock Lesnar quit WWE to embark on a pro football career, considering he hadn't played since High School.

But now, I'm even more surprised he signed with the Vikings, only because of Mike Tice's seemingly negative comments about Lesnar when he first announced his desire to play for Minnesota.

My guess is Brock makes the practice squad at best, but he could be used in a DL rotation and on special teams. He could be a ST demon.

How much money was he making as a wrestler?

Estimates have been around $1.5 million. Probably a six-figure downside guarantee, plus merchandise, plus % of live gates, plus PPV revenue and other streams probably puts it at 1 1/2 mil.

He was offered close to 10 million to not leave the company, Brock will be back. His girlfriend is still with the company and he was on the verge of stardom before he left and is not going to find much hope of stardom in THe NFL.

That money figure can't be right. In his prime, Hogan didn't even make $10 mil a year. Lesnar didn't grow up in the wrestling business- he's a farm boy, and really didn't like the travel. I don't think it's as easy as "if he fails at football, he'll be back."
