July 28, 200422 yr Most of these trades appear to have Conine in the mix....but looking at his career avg, he is about to heat up if he keeps with his yrly avg. So the question is who is better than Conine in LF ( financially, offensively, defensively). Walker is much more $$$ and I do not believe a deal for Bautista is going to give the team the umph it needs to push on into the playoffs. Prima donna Finley only wants to play CF and is free after the year..... The marlins need RP, setup man, and mostly a CATCHER....almost any catcher is going to be better than the mix we have now, both offensively and defensively. So shouldn't the fish focus on this position.....Kendall, Mirabelli, etc. and RP rather than signing Walker (same age as Conine and more $$$). Unless they have a shot of landing Beltran or Dunn, or Willy Mo Pena or even Rob Mackowiak - point being a younger OF'r with great potential then leave the OF alone. Your thoughts....
July 28, 200422 yr I dont see us getting Kendall, he is owed too much money over the next 3 or 4 years I sll would like another bat so this way Niner can play the OF and for Choi(has anyone seen Easley's BA vs lefties?.... something like 11/63) definitely could use another arm in the pen too

Your thoughts.... 479768[/snapback] I agree with you a 100%. As we can see in the past 13 games conine has been hitting with runners in scoring position. we are weak at cather and rp thats where we need the upgrade.
July 28, 200422 yr I've been against a trade for a bat for a long time, because I refuse to believe that anything we can get is worth the upgrade or is really an upgrade at all. Pen is and continues to be the moost glaring problem, though with our league's newfound parity (which in the end I believe will hurt small market franchises, more on this in the MLB thread in a sec) too many teams are in it to have many relief pitchers available. A top prospect in Denny Martinez got traded for Jason Grimsley for goodness sakes. And this was to a team that has zero chance of making the playoffs this season! Alas, I digress. We've always needed bullpen help, and even more so now that the words "elbow" and "tendinitis" have been mentioned alongside each other in the same breath regarding our only reliable bullpen arm, by chance our closer, Armando Benitez. Hopefully it's nothing serious and he will be back to his dominating himself in a day or so. However, even if he is 100% down the stretch, he can't put out every flame by himself. I love Manzy and Bump is kind of cool, but we have nothing we can call and say with more than 60% certainty at best that the situation will be closed. You cannot be a real playoff caliber team and only have one fireman in your bullpen, especially if that fireman is your closer. We live in a time in baseball where pen roles are strictly defined, therefore we can't count on Armando as much as we'd like. Besides this, our offense has alwys been good, just very, very cold. Who knows what the spark is, was, or will be for those who haven't heated up. However, Miguelito is now driving them in in bunches. I wouldn't call Mikey hot, but he isn't exactly slumping. Niner has 14 RBI in his last 13 games, it seems his shoulder is finally ok. I'm not sure on the rest of them because I've been away, but from what I've gathered the problems in the losses for the most part haven't been the hitting. In short, we need pen. Not offense. Please, someone listen.
