August 10, 200422 yr Royals send reigning AL rookie of year down to Double-A Aug. 10, 2004 SportsLine.com wire reports CHICAGO -- The Kansas City Royals sent struggling AL Rookie of the Year Angel Berroa to Double-A Wichita on Tuesday. Berroa, who signed a four-year, $11 million contract in May, was batting just .249 with five home runs and 30 RBI. Last year, the shortstop hit .287 with 17 homers and 73 RBI in his first full season on a big league roster. The Royals called up Wichita shortstop Andres Blanco to fill Berroa's roster spot, Royals general manager Allard Baird said. In 80 games for Wichita, the 20-year-old Blanco hit .244 with 21 RBI. He is the second-youngest player in the major leagues, behind Tampa Bay shortstop B.J. Upton. In another move, the Royals optioned right-hander Ryan Bukvich to Triple-A Omaha and called up righty Jorge Vasquez from Wichita. The 26-year-old Vasquez will make his major league debut after posting a 3-4 record with 15 saves and a 5.16 ERA in 43 relief appearances for the Wranglers.
August 11, 200422 yr Why the hell did they send him to AA and not AAA? 504883 Because they called up the AA SS?
August 11, 200422 yr Why the hell did they send him to AA and not AAA? 504883 AA is where the teams best prospects are, AAA is for the player who has been in the minors way too long or couldnt hack it in the Majors, Angel Berroa will be playing with some good talent in AA

Most teams actually send their best prospects to AAA unlike the Marlins. Calling up Willis and Cabrera straight from AA is not the norm.

August 11, 200422 yr I went to the Sox/Royals game tonight, and during the second inning I was thinking to myself "who the hell are these guys?" check this out. DeJesus, 169 career AB's Nunez, 109 career AB's Gotay, 16 career AB's Buck, 102 career AB's Blanco, 27 career AB's 423 AB combined between 5 players... Those are career numbers. 25 players in baseball have at least 423 AB's already this season.
August 11, 200422 yr Yikes....Berroa is tearing it up for me in MVP Baseball...too bad he's struggling in real life
