August 13, 200422 yr Mixed feelings for Charley BY GEORGE RICHARDS grichards@herald.com The Marlins came to the stadium Thursday morning packed and ready to embark on a nine-game road trip. Many were ready to roll out of town before Hurricane Charley comes calling. The team changed the start of Thursday's game against St. Louis to the afternoon to avoid heavy rains expected later in the night. ''There was one hurricane about three or four years ago that was only a Category 1,'' Jeff Conine said. ``I remember before it came in I was out running some errands and I stopped to get gas and I couldn't even walk, the wind was so strong.'' Matt Perisho resides in Arizona and actually was looking forward to seeing what a big storm brings to town. ''I'm kind of disappointed we're leaving,'' he said. ``I was going to sit out on my balcony and watch it.'' Pitcher Dontrelle Willis grew up in the San Francisco area and knows a thing or two about the surprise an earthquake can bring. Being able to prepare for a hurricane doesn't bring him any comfort. ''Both of them can kill you, so I don't like either,'' Willis said. ``I think it's good we're getting away from this. I don't want to be around something like this. Some other guys are more strong-willed than I am. I like the sun and surf, but I don't like hurricanes.'' http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sport...all/9388335.htm
