August 17, 200422 yr The biggest problem with basketball in the US is not lack of talent. the problem is what players put emphasis on now. Flashy dunks and layups are nice to watch but are worth nothing if the player has no shot. These european teams with their zone defenses and outside shooting are more sound fundamentally. This is why the U.S. has struggled. They still may have the most talent, but american players need to go back to the basics, passing, shooting, and defense, and make dunking, and shooting unecessary layups when triple covered as a secondary aspect.
August 17, 200422 yr there isnt even fundamentals taught in high school, especially to the great players.
August 18, 200422 yr Maybe it's that any player shorter than 6'6" or true point guard are not allowed to practice their skills against the best of the NBA. The entire lineup are big men and slashers. True point guards and outside shooters rarely start in the US pro ranks. Over in Europe and around the world they are second only to that one 7-footer in the country they threw on the court and taught to move outside of the paint every three seconds.

In europe even someone who is 6'10 has a mean jumper
