    im pretty sure Man on the Moon came out with the movie of the same name in the late 90s, actually 1999 to be exact.

     

    as far as classifying what is and what isnt "classic rock", yeah its true, its a sound. i usually categorize most of that aforementioned sound that came out of the mid to late 60s till the end of the 70s. but i totally agree on the sound bit.

    I usually classify classic rock as the mid 60s to mid 80s kind of stuff...BUT Aerosmith, for example, has always kind of sounded the same and there music has spanned much longer than that, so there are shades of gray.
