Talking of the present.

Iraq is a f***ing mess. We can't leave, but we can't stay either. Bush alienated all countries that could help us. Only solution is to elect a new President who can at least get these countries talking to us again. If they don't help us, at least we tried. Bush is not even trying and that is exactly the point.

To me the most important factor in this election is National Security and this doesn't involve Iraq as much as it involves protecting ourselves here. We are seriously vulnerable right now, our fortress is empty and all our troops went to fight in another land. Our borders are almost completely open... Ask anyone who leaves near the borders with Mexico or Canada. If "anyone" (not illegal workers only, but terrorists too) wanted to get inside the United States, they can easily do it. Our ports are completely insecure, our nuclear plants are inadequately equiped to prevent a terrorist attack... In other words, we are more vulnerable now than ever. Not even talk about the first responders, who not only continue to be ill equiped but underfunded... What is the response of the Bush/Cheney team? "We are fighting the enemy abroad so we don't have to fight it at home"... DUDE! terrorists don't have states, they can TRAVEL and now we are an easy target!

You are so naive, you still don't get it do you - states have INTERESTS that trancend whatever administration that happens to be in power.

If it was in their interest to help, they would no matter who was prez. ex. We helped the Soviets during WWII even though we knew uncle Joe was a raving homicidal loon because it served the US interests to do so at the time(i.e. relaxed pressure on the western front that we would inevitably have to open with an invasion in the future). ex. the Russians helped in Afganistan because it would remove the threat of another loony fundamantalist state on their southern borders, and opened the door for vigorous trade with the new Afgan state.

The French and Germans quite obviously didn't help because of their close (and significant) economic ties with the Saddam regime and the fear that their ongoing contracts would be disrupted.

No amount of Kerry gum flapping would change that situation.

Just because Bush can't doesn't mean anybody can't. I'm willing to give Kerry the chance. I am sure he won't "stay the course" if he knows it is unwinable like Vietnam... he wouldn't want any soldier to be the last one to die for a mistake.

How would Kerry alter Franch and German national interests?

No need to write a book here, just toss out a few credible ideas to bolster your argument.

He just have to try dude, that's all. :thumbup

I'm asking you how he might "try". Your non-answers are telling.

I'll help you out and give one obvious possible answer -- but its one not too appealing to the American public. Alter their intrests by altering the financial balance to the point where Saddam's contracts become irrelevant.

Non-answers? you crack me up. Kerry has talked about letting them participate in the reconstruction efforts. Let's see what George W. leaves alive in Iraq and then we talk. We have to elect John Kerry first. :thumbup

Yawn, that's already happening, not just being talked about. I was hoping you'd have something fresh.

:lol You are so deluded. It isn't happening. No other ally is participating on the reconstruction. We are the ones paying the whole bill and Halliburton (an American company) was awarded a no-bid contract.... Got anything to support the fact that we are the ones doing the whole reconstruction and that we told other countries to go to hell when they offered their help after the war???? huh?

You need to up your meds, you're suffering some sort of episodes.

You basically have no clue as to who is doing what in Iraq and that is a truly sad thing, because its a condemnation of the US media.

If its all the US, then how come all sort of non-US workers are getting kidnapped?

Did they all go to Iraq on holiday? Explain this curious dilemma (within your particular belief system).

:lol :lol Watching too much Fox Tonyi. There is no bigger mess than Iraq's reconstruction effort. Please tell me how much money, which country, how many contracts were others awarded in the reconstruction... Let me know, I am open minded. :mischief

Many of them are part of NGOs aiding the Iraqis who cant get basic needs met...due to the invasion and destruction of homes and infrastructure.
