October 9, 200422 yr I would have to say yes, he has a GG maybe another, 1000 hits, all the stolen bases and the 35 game hit streak. yet you rarely see a castillo jersey, fans saying he's their favorite player, and magazine covers. the man has been a crucial part of the offense for years and yet he never gets the respect he deserves. yet he's one of the greatest marlins of all time, IMHO.
October 9, 200422 yr yes, this guy always bats over .300 and alot of RBI's and still doesnt get much attention, only on that hitting streak
October 9, 200422 yr his offense tends to be overshadowed by J.P., and his defense by Gonzalez. But is arguably a better all-around player than either (CERTAINLY better than gonzalez), and had the bad luck of having his best seasons take place before the Marlins were a team that received much national attention. It was nice that he got the big RBI in game 6 of the WS last year though
October 9, 200422 yr .300 switch-hitter with patience, blazing speed and some pop? Better damn well be appreciated.

October 9, 200422 yr It's gotta be pudge, he got no attention in Florida since he didn't let his ego grow too big. :mischief
October 9, 200422 yr Like Ichiro, he's capable of more doubles and homers than he hits. 586903[/snapback] if he hit from the right side, but then he wouldn't have as high of an average

He even picks Luis Castillo for a HR Derby in baseball games.
October 9, 200422 yr It's tough: A lot of his accomplishments as being "the greatest Marlin" are simply because of longevity. For me, the greatest Marlin ever was Gary Sheffield, but Castillo certainly belongs up there. I've got a Castillo t-shirt, I have incredible respect for him because of how committed he was to staying last off-season when the Yanks and Red Sox wanted to give him more money than we could offer, but I agree, most fans don't recognize how important he is to this team. However, I do like the argument that he's not as good as a leadoff man as JP, he's not as good a fielder as Gonzalez, and he doesn't hit the ball with any great power, he does things that a baseball purist appreciates, but often get over looked.
