Nationals to be with Brevard County in 2005!

Featured Replies

Yeah I knew they'd be there for 05. The question is what will happen when new ownership takes over. It's too nice of a facility for someone not to be playing spring training there.

(of course the marlins are always welcome to come back. :mischief )

I'm pretty sure the Nationals would like to stay there.

It might also depend on the Brewers' and Devil Rays' new ownership want to do. The Brewers hold the inside track with the FSL franchise, and one that looks to be loaded with talent. While the Devil Rays have been trying to get back in the FSL and were a finalist to affiliate with the Manatees, but they'd probably want something closer to the Gulf. Although it would be a smart move by the Rays to take a strike at the Marlins or Braves and field a team on the Space Coast or Northern Florida.

The Devil Rays want to re-join the FSL. They considered Brevard County as their only option (now with all the teams hosting their ST affiliates, it is), and had to settle for re-signing with Lancaster CA, quite possibly the worst high-A affiliate out there, for the minimum (2 years).

Milwaukee's single A team will be playing in Brevard next year. I believe Washington moved it's single A team to somewhere in Virginia.

Problem is that the restructuring took away teams. Who is going to replace the Red Sox that moved from Sarasota out of the league?

The Red Sox to Wilmington DE, which makes a lot of sense for them considering their fan base in the mid-Atlantic.

The Reds took over Sarasota of the FSL making Brevard County the only team which will not host the same affiliate for spring training and the FSL season.
