Half Life 2 Help

Featured Replies

Planning on gettin half life 2 for xmas along with a new 6600 GT vid card. ive heard ppl talking about how the game regardless of ur vid card runs real bad and is very CPU dependent(processor). i have read it gets real choppy and the FPS even on good gaming PC's drops to the 30's and lower during action online.

i would like to know what FPS and performance i can expect out of my PC.

AMD Athlon 2000+ 1.7ghz

512mb ddram

80 GB Hard Drive

Nvidia 6600 GT 128mb

350 watt power supply

if u can plz list ur similar PC setup and the FPS (frames per second) u get on ur rig.

Well I can tell you that the game does stutter regardless of what setup you have. Its a problem that Valve is currently working on and a patch is going to be made available soon. Now I can tell you that it last for a minute during load screens and saves screens etc.

But for the most part, HL2 runs very smoothly. I don't think you'll have that much problem running it on your computer, especially when you upgrade to the 6600.

Btw my specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ @2.41 GHz

1 Gig RAM

ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128 MB

160GB HD

Sound Blaster Audigy LS

400 W PSU

So I can't give you a comparision in FPS or anything.

It varies from computer..some people I know have load times form 5-15sec. While others (like myself) have load times for 30sec to a minute. The game does have an audio stuttering bug. Basically when the game is loading a sound it will freeze the gamme and the sound will repeate from a second to 5 seconds. It's annoyning to say the leaset. Valve has released a 'patch' but it had no effect on me. The game runs smoother in online play than single player. I donnt know where you got that information from. I'm running on a pos laptop and i get around 30fps with a lot of action going on (High model, medium text, high shadows).

You should be able to run it at good FPS with 2x AA and AF on.

Btw, I paid $287 for my AMD 64 about 3 months ago. Today the processor cost $220 on newegg. :mischief

whats CS? if you mean counterstrike then the game shipped with counter strike source. which is the old counter strike made new with the gfx engine of half life 2 and some new maps. from what ive seen it looks crazy insane.

besides that ohter mods coming out soon are day of defeat.thats all ive heard since i get my game on xmas.
