Intellegence Czar

Featured Replies

Bush's new strategy is to have an Intellegence Czar who reports directly to him.

I don't think this is better for Homeland Security- I think this is tailor made for more embarrassing cover-ups and more justifications to keep the war ongoing. Why won't the person report directly to the Congress?? Why all the closed door politics?

Your thoughts??

I'm sure Bush will put someone in that position who he can order around, and also use as a scapegoat like Colin Powell if something goes wrong.

If you interview anyone who worked in the White House and who has retired since 2000, they will say that this administration is even more secretive than Nixon's. I've heard it from almost 10 different former workers.

Why won't the person report directly to the Congress??

Just a thought, but congress has no authority to act on matters of security other than to fund them. Foreign policy and direction of the military are matters for the executive.

Why all the closed door politics?

I imagine because our enemies have TV's and read the press too. Spooks operating in the open aren't very useful. The only time intel should be made public is when its readily available elsewhere (ex. all the stuff in the CIA's World Fact Book), or has become stale (ex. WWII vintage records).

Exactly, it seems few people understand the nature of intelligence. Although i believe that what this country needs least of all is more beauracracy, the 9/11 commission does believe this should be done, and b/c of it this is the ebst way to do it. I would be upset if our intelligence czar wasnt secretive first of all and second if he would report to congress it would be a sham to our checks and balances system. Some people need to get past their anti-bush bias and remmeber that after Bush there will be other presidents who will use the intelligence czars services

YEs, I'm anti-Bush but I'd be anti-Anybody who wants to do this kind of stuff behind closed doors to ONE man. I'm not stupid- I know that intelligence must be kept in the dark, but not only to one man. That's why we're supposed to have a President, not a Dictator.

You have the fate of millions of people resting on the judgements of two people?

Not my idea of democracy.
