January 11, 200521 yr Bad news if we don't get Delgado. Good news is we won't be mortgaging the franchise. At first base, Conine (great glove and 20 HR) and behind him Jason Stokes, Willingham, Dillon and Easely. Not great sticks yet but ALL of the other 7 starters are going to step up big-time. Nobody will want to play the Marlins. Of course, all bets are off if we lose A.J.
January 11, 200521 yr Very true...but what has AJ done lately? We have been contenders without him...I think we need to sign a good pitcher who can start as well. The farm really has no answer for this issue right now.
January 11, 200521 yr Honestly, I think Miggy will have a monster season. I am talking .315, 40 hr, 130 rbi. He continues to develop, and you can see that with his performance in the Venezuelan winter league. I remember last year in Venezuela he hit about .330 with some good power and good rbi numbers... this year he's doing even better. I am thinking he'll explode and become a new superstar. For some reason, I have a good feeling about Encarnacion and Gonzo. Both of them will be free agents after this year... and you know how well guys play right before they become free agents. The other guys will do about the same... Pierre and Castillo will both hit over .300 and get on base a lot, Conine will get his 80-95 rbi, Lowell will get 25-30 hrs and 90-100 rbi. With Miggy having a monster season, and Gonzo and Encarnacion having career years, we'll be in good shape. We need our starters to stay healthy, though. If we get Delgado, we have an even better chance.

January 12, 200521 yr True, Chin, but it would be nice if more than a few pennies are spent on the offense this year. Last year's cast was terrible.

Castillo and Pierre's legs a year older. While I too suspect Gonzalez is going to have a breakout year, his power has increased and is only one step away from puttng it all together. However there's no reason to expect the same for Encarnacion. GMs have been predicting his breakout season for years now and he has never delivered regardless of his health. The only improvement I see on the offensive side is the replacement of Lenny Harris and Mike Mordecai on the bench.

Lowell is 30... still in his prime. Lo Duca is at the end of his prime, but still there. And Conine, you're right, is old.
