January 26, 200521 yr http://www.nbc5.com/news/4130825/detail.ht...317&dppid=65193 A California man will face homicide charges following Wednesday morning's commuter train crash in Glendale that claimed 10 lives. Police in the Los Angeles suburb said a suicidal driver parked his Jeep Cherokee on the tracks but changed his mind about dying and jumped out of the vehicle. Authorities said a Metrolink train hit the SUV, derailed, then hit another train. Glendale Police Chief Randy Adams has identified the man as Juan Manuel Alvarez, 26, of Compton. Adams said terrorism was not involved. In addition to the 10 people killed, more than 100 were injured when the commuter train hit the SUV. Glendale Police Chief Randy Adams said a southbound commuter train struck the vehicle and derailed, causing the train to strike a northbound train. Firefighters picked through the twisted wreckage, which was scattered across the tracks. They carried wounded passengers to a triage center in a nearby parking lot. The train was headed from Los Angeles to Burbank. The second train was apparently a freight train operated by Union Pacific. Smoke could be seen coming from twisted wreckage. The crash, which occurred after 6 a.m., was near San Fernando Road and Chevy Chase Boulevard in Glendale. Los Angeles Mayor James Hahn commended fire crews "who arrived shortly after calamity occurred and extinguished the fire that was raging and helped with the victims." He said there was a lot of diesel fuel on the freight train, which firefighters prevented from burning. The mayor said that looking at the wreckage, "The sheer force and mass that was involved in this collision, it was a miracle more people did not die in this." He praised what he called the "real first responders," the other passengers on the train who immediately helped people who were injured in the crash. God that makes me madder than hell...someone thinking only of themselves is responsible for at least 10 lives. That guy should burn. Freaking loser.
January 26, 200521 yr Next time just stand on the track, you jacka$$. Its too bad he changed his mind about dying, because now he's going to death row. :thumbdown
January 27, 200521 yr Typical selfish LA a**hole. Also, another great excuse to keep SUVs off the streets unless completely necessary.

January 27, 200521 yr The whole point is that I have a jihad against SUVs. Anyone who wants to die and they drives a Crown Vic, they're probably living on borrowed times as is.
January 27, 200521 yr As long as there are people, there are going to be really screwed up people. It's quite unfortunate, but it's a sad fact of life that isn't going away.
