February 5, 200519 yr This whole list is a traveshamockery. :mischief It's good, but I don't think Jay-Z or Biggie are top-10 all-time.
February 5, 200519 yr Some things I thought/observed: - Voters were pretty consistent. Most of the bands on the list have either a CD or a song on the Top Ten, and the bands ranked highest finished high in other polls as well (The Beatles with song, artist, and CD, Led Zeppelin with song, CD, and Guitarist, Pink Floyd with song, CD, and guitarist, Metallica with guitarist, etc.). - When there was an apparent problem with one list, it was made up for in another. There were many complaints for Eric Clapton's snubbing on the Guitarist list or BSSM's high rank, in return Clapton was #4 Artist and RHCP stopped at #6. - Some notables were missing but I'll talk about where I think everyone should be later. - Things got messy at times but for the most part everyone kept it civil, which is very comendable.

February 6, 200519 yr Forgot about Prince. easily better than 3-4 of the artisits on that all time list. Other than that, everything else is pretty solid.

February 6, 200519 yr Im not gonna argue rap with you, because it isnt my thing...but personally I would rather listen to Pac and a Wu Tang album before biggie.

He never impressed me as an emcee. There are about 25 rappers who are lightyears better than him. His death and P. Diddy's media relations have made his legend go far beyond his talent. To me, he's like the Joe Namath of rappers.
February 6, 200519 yr My thoughts on the lists themselves: Best Artist: - Should be there: Prince, Freddie Mercury - Shouldn't be there: Jay-Z, Jimmy Buffet (they were only 9 and 10 though) - This is probably the most solid list of all placement wise Best Band: - Should be there: The Rolling Stones, AC/DC - Shouldn't be there: Rush - Lynyrd Skynyrd, Metallica, are a couple places too high. The Who are way too low. Best CD: - Should be there: Electric Ladyland is a better CD than Are You Experienced?, London Calling, Wish You Were Here but I doubt the voters would stand for three Pink Floyd albums in the top ten - Shouldn't be there: Appetite for Destruction is very good but London Calling is way superior, same with Revolver as compared to Wish You Were Here - Everything here is within a couple places of where they probably should be, including the right #1, so no major qualms. Best Guitarist: - Should be there: Eric Clapton - Shouldn't be there: Joe Perry - Outside of the glaring absence of the person who should be #3 on this list, everything else is about in the right place including the right #1 and the right Top 5, minus Gilmour whose a little lower IMO. Best Song: - Should be there: Maybe Kashmir, but I can't see anything to replace. - Shouldn't be there: All are deserving. - One should probably be a little higher, and November Rain a little lower. I think Stairway should for sure be number 1, but oh well.
February 6, 200519 yr Best Band: Obviously Nirvana should be in the top 10 bands of all time, no matter what criteria you use, they were just the biggest band and one of the most influential bands in a long long time. The Ramones also should have placed in the top 10, the face of punk. Velvet Underground might be ranked that high. IMO, Aerosmith is a over-rated and they have alot more quantity than quality. The Allman Brothers are a better southern rock band than Skynyrd. They have more than just 3 or 4 good songs. Can't say too much about Rush haven't given them a real listen to aside from Tom Sawyer, I doubt they are worthy of top 10 status but can't say much more than that. Best Artist: I don't know who is a bigger joke Jimmy Buffet or Jay Z. Surprised we had three rappers but no one like Marvin Gaye or Ray Charles, not like I am a fan of that kind of music but it has a bit more claim to classic status being as it is an older brand of music. Jeff Buckley should probably have made best artists had he not died so abruptly. Grace is alot better album than most of the greatest hits volumes of any of the artists in that category. Best CD: No Nevermind is just odd, no album will have the staying power in our generation that an album like Nevermind had. It's not their best album, but it's one of the most important albums in rock history.
February 7, 200519 yr most of the time, i respect and value your opinion, Juanky, but to say that London Calling is a better album than Appetite is just about the most ridiculous thing ive heard in a long, long time. any person in their right mind will tell you that. Revolver is also in fact better than Wish You Were Here. other than these two discrepancies, i agree 100% with everything you said in your last post. and yes, cobaincola, the Allman Bros are, well i think, a better, way better, southern rock band than Lynyrd Skynyrd.

But Wish You Were Here, in my opinion at least, is better than Revolver. Also, maybe it's just me, but I don't really like punk rock at all and I still think London Calling has to be top ten. I've never heard Appetite in its entirety, but from what I've heard I personally think London Calling is better. They mix alot more stuff in and still make it sound great. and not to bust your nuts juanky but November Rain is much better than ONE ... and one is a good song but nowhere better than Nov Rain ... again these are all opinions and we are all entitled to them so whatever Oh I agree, but I think November Rain is a little too high and One just a little too low as compared to Purple Haze. But I don't think One should be ahead of November Rain.
