I'm helping a local non-profit group make some databases of volunteers and donors. I'm only familiar with Microsoft Access, and their computers don't have this. Does anyone know of cheap alternatives (or a cheap place that they can get this at)?

instead, you could look on ebay for ms office.

 

also, i bet tonyi knows a low cost way to buy an OEM copy.

do you want them to be searchable and able to run reports?

 

 

 

if you want it just to keep a list of info, excel is a very cheap alternative, and easier to master.

I've never used it, but apparently http://www.openoffice.org/ is an open source, free alternative to Microsoft Office... it may be worth a look.

Yea, I was thinking Excel, but they want to be able to search and run reports easily; that's why I was thinking more along the lines of Access.

there are rudimentry search functions in excel.

 

 

cant do reports.

 

 

access or some other comprable database program is where you will have to go.

 

and designing anything other than basic reports can be a bitch.
