No, 1truefan is right. The funds must be appropriated in the fiscal year 2004 budget by 12/01/2003. A preliminary budget is in the works now, but I haven't heard boo about any allocations for a stadium on the munincipal side, which is a definite bad sign.

I think you'll be waiting at least until the end of the '04 season if you are looking for substantial progress on the stadium front.

Question....if the 2004 fiscal year starts on October 1, 2003, why would the budget be due December 1st? Preliminary Budget is due in August and finalized around September.

They can make space on the budget for a ballpark if they so desire. Bonds do not come out of the budget since they are loans for the project. The must be budgeted for in the future in order to pay the project off in case the project doesn't create enough revenue of it's own to pay it off.

I will repeat tax money from the county/Miami Beach hotel tax would be used minimally. Bonds and Ticket Taxes are the most likely ways of government payment. Hopefully they won't involve the county since some commissioner (sorenson) don't think the team has fans. Hopefully this weekend she will learn that there are fans.

Oh, she definitely will.

Is her e-mail address posted anywhere? We could send her the attendance stats and any positive articles written about the Marlins.

Katy Sorenson is a county commissioner. Here is her website - http://www.co.miami-dade.fl.us/district08/home.asp

She is a major commissioner and the biggest roadblock since she is not sure of the fanbase.

But i doubt the county will have a big part in the project since the city of miami has to just issue bonds and raise some sort of ticket tax/facilities charge.

Just to give a heads up. I was in Marlins en Miami yesterday buying some stuff and I talked to the people that work there. They said to expect serious crowds this entire weekend because they had been selling tickets like crazy. In fact when I was there a lady walked in and bought tickets for the Thugs game on Sunday.

I heard a little vicious rumor that the lower level was sold out for Sat and Sun. Anyone confirm this?

No, FY doesn't start on 10/1, but a finalized budget must be enacted and in place by the end of the year...Thusly the 12/1 deadline.

The city of Miami doesn't start FY2004 on Oct. 1st? The feds, county, and state start FY2004 on Oct. 1st.

All you have to do is go to floridamarlins.com and try to get lower level tickets. If they are sold it they won't let you buy them.

RFK in DC?

Good job, as a reward I will check out what has sold out for this weekend's games for you. BRB with the results

As of Wed. July 16, 2003 these are the best seats available for the weekend series:

It keeps giving me errors...I'll try later.
