Question About the Draft

Your initial position in the draft in the first round and the rounds thereafter are a reflection of how well you did compared to the rest of the teams. Then draft picks (first round, second round, supplemental second round) of teams that sign free agents of other teams before a certain date get transferred to the teams that lost the free agent. Since we lost Benitez, Pavano, and Redmond, we gained 3 picks in the first two rounds of the draft. So we'll get two extra first round picks and an extra second round pick. I think we may have gained another pick as well... I don't recall.

The Marlins have the following for the amateur draft:

Overall Pick:

First Round:

16 - Marlin's choice

22 - Giant's pick as compensation for Benitez

29 - Yankee's pick as compensation for Pavano

Supplemental First Round:

34 - Supplemental pick as compensation for Benitez

44 - Supplemental pick as compensation for Pavano

Second Round:

67 - Marlin's pick

Supplemental Second Round:

82 - Compensation for Redmond

The Fish have never had more than one first round selection in their history, much less five ( counting the Supp. first ) and it is an exceptional year for college talent. Keep a couple of position players in mind - Teagarden the catcher out of Texas and Braun the third bagger out of UM
