Beinfest optimistic: Marlins general manager Admin Beinfest isn't concerned about the Marlins' poor Spring Training, because of the team's experience.

 

The Marlins were 11-20-1 in Grapefruit League action (their second-worst spring record) and hit .240, the lowest in the Majors. The team's 4.35 ERA was fourth-best in the National League.

 

"It's a different team, because they have track records, they have history, they've done it the big leagues before," said Beinfest. "You don't put a lot into Spring Training, because they've done it, they know what they can do and they're just out there getting ready."

 

Beinfest addressed the team's biggest needs in the offseason by acquiring a left-handed bat in Carlos Delgado, shoring up the bullpen and adding a veteran starter in Al Leiter.

 

"We like the potential of this team," said Beinfest. "We don't see big holes on this team. We see production in every area, and areas where you'd like to be strong, we are. Now it's just a matter of staying healthy and coming together as a group."
