April 17, 200521 yr Nobody seems to be talking about how bad our offense is. The team chemistry is just not there I don't know if it has to do with the batting order or what but we need to do something and I mean fast. It's the same problem as last year we still have too many holes in the lineup. Anyway, does anybody have any suggestions about who we should acquire next?
April 17, 200521 yr As of now I think we don't need to acquire anyone player wise. Coaching wise we need a new hitting coach. The key is to get the 3-4-5 hitter's going. Mike Lowell will be the key. Once we get those guys going we should be fine. We need to play a game that turns around the season, a game that will light a spark. The 2003 Marlins and 2004 Red Sox had such games. The 3-4-5 hitter's need to start performing better. I hope delgado is just in a slump right now and should get out of it soon hopefully. Lowell needs to stop trying to hit the first pitch that comes his and be more patent. Cabrara I don't really have a problem he is a really good hitter but his fielding needs to improve.

But Im saying it right now and Im putting it on the record. The offense will break out. Delgado and Lowell are not one or two season wonders. Nor are they steroid induced players. They are guys who have produced year in and year out. Guys like that just dont lose their touch all of a sudden. Unless they are injured, and Im pretty sure they arent, they are just going through a tough stretch early on. That means they will hit a hot streak. And if that hot streak ends up being in a collective fashion like their slump, then this offense is gonna be sick. Actually IMO, its not a question of if, but when. The pitching will keep us in it. The pitching should keep the team from falling too far behind. The pitching will keep us around .500. And when the offense explodes, the team makes its run. What was the Cardinals record after 11 games? 5-6. After 26 games? 13-13 After 44 games? 23-21 They didnt make their run until June The Yankees? 5-6...12-11..made their run in May. The As? 11-12....26-23.... Hit their cylinders in June. Coincedently, this is when their offense started churning out 13 run games. As long as you have one side of the ball keeping you in games and doesntly let you fall too far behind, the other side will pick up the pace eventually IF it is capable. This team has a very capable offense. Like I said, the pitching will keep us in it and the offense will make us take off. We seriously need to stop expecting this team to be 11-0 or 10-1. Yeah they havent played perfect but a lot of teams dont always start out perfect.
April 17, 200521 yr The problem I see with the offense is that everyone is trying to pull the ball. Absolutely no consistent opposite field hitting. This can explain all the damn popping out. If you can't hit to the opposite you will be doomed. They need to stop trying to hit a HR and start getting on base. The homers will come.

IMO, when they get their strokes, youre going to see them hitting the oppositie way. Whether they decided to and it caused them to escape their slump or vice versa is left up to debate. On another note to what I said earlier, I think there are two ways in which good teams get good records. They either do it by grinding out 2-1 series victories or they go on heavy runs. If one of the three middle order guys was hitting the ball well, I bet we would be in that phase. We would be winning these close games and grinding out to a high number of victories. When that hitter then slows down, the another hitter will hit his groove and the grinding out continues. The more good hitter you have, the more you can afford to grind it out. But when all the hitters are in the same phase of their season(ie struggles and streaks), then the offense leaks anemic. Except when they all collectivley hit get their act together. Then the offense exlodes. Then the team wins by the other method..by going on a ferocious run. I expect the Marlins to do that sooner or later.

I just looked on MLB website and found that Soriano only signed a one year contract with texas. This may sound a little crazy to some of you but this is what I would do trade Encar, Castillo, and Burnett. I would then put Conine back in left field and have Soriano play 2B. What do you think about that? That's if they would do that trade.
April 17, 200521 yr We're not gettig Ichiro and we're not getting Soriano. Unless this team takes a serious nose-dive during the next two months I doubt you'll even see a coaching move. Read F_M's post above. It only takes one hot streak to pull away from the pack. Sure I'd like to win 2 of 3 every series the entire season, but it ain't happening. Once the middle of the order gets on track, we'll be fine. Let's just hope that happens sooner rather than later.... The Braves (or someone else) are bound to go on a roll at some point.

That's not to say this team has had a consistent problem with hitting that may run deeper than simply the players being in a funk, but that's for the F.O. to decide...
