Posted April 21, 200519 yr comment_479239 Maggs' hernia injury a mystery April 21, 2005 DETROIT -- Now that Magglio Ordonez has seen a hernia specialist in Canada and the results have come back inconclusive, the Detroit Tigers do not know what to think. Ordonez, who signed a five-year, $75 million contract with the Tigers during the offseason, was thought to be headed toward hernia surgery that would keep him out four to six weeks. But a specialist in Montreal did not recommend surgery Wednesday. Ordonez is expected to visit another specialist Monday in Philadelphia. ''It's not to say it's not [a hernia], but there is nothing conclusive to say it is one,'' Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said. A year ago, Ordonez was the picture of health while playing for the White Sox until a May 19 collision with Willie Harris in Cleveland. Since then, he has undergone two surgeries on his left knee and was treated in Europe for bone marrow edema. Ordonez started slow in spring training before he was felled by a viral infection. He has played in only three regular-season games and is hitless in 10 at-bats. A clause in Ordonez's contract states that he can't spend more than 25 days on the disabled list this season with knee problems; otherwise, the entire deal can be voided. That has led to speculation that Ordonez is exaggerating other injuries to hide the fact his knee still hurts. "We haven't been concerned about his knee,'' Dombrowski insisted. "He hasn't had pain in his knee since he reported to us. I wish he was able to be out there playing on his knee at this point.'' Doug Padilla http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-ssep21.html I get the feeling that Boras and Maggs are trying to pull a fast one on the Tigers, and quite frankly, they deserve it if they were dumb enough to give him a 5 year deal... April 21, 200519 yr comment_479241 Not surprising. His knee condition is in-curable. His career, much less this season, is very close to being over. April 21, 200519 yr comment_479243 How did you come to that? Surely the team trainer or doctor had to check him out. Link to comment https://www.marlinsbaseball.com/topic/27701-the-magglio-hernia-story-takes-a-twist/?&do=findComment&comment=479243 Share on other sites
April 21, 200519 yr comment_479244 Interesting "theory". If it is true that he's using hernia as an excuse for bad knee, then this guy is a real scumbag Link to comment https://www.marlinsbaseball.com/topic/27701-the-magglio-hernia-story-takes-a-twist/?&do=findComment&comment=479244 Share on other sites
