April 28, 200521 yr After that he started to get real nasty and basically that I was wasting his time and that now he would for sure vote against the bill. BTW this Mike Fasano and Tom Lee both voted for the money for spring training stadiums including Brighthouse Stadium in Clearwater which just happens to be in Mike Fasano's district!!! JUST REMEMBER THIS NAME FOR THE FUTURE MIKE FASANO (Remember Johnny Byrd last year). I wish you could file a complaint against this idiot. Thanks Dr Guava 756775 call him again (or have someone else call him), tape record him, and send copies of the tape to the newspapers & local TV stations. smear his ass.
April 28, 200521 yr I moved to Citrus county (north of Tampa) about 8 months ago from Broward so I decided to contact my senate representative Mike Fasano via the telrphone. To my surprise he answered the phone and I explained to him that I would appreciate his support on the Bill in the senate for the money needed for the Marlins stadium. He told me that he is against giving money to sports franchises and that he would probably no vote in favor of it. At this point he tells me that the Marlins have already received their tax break before I reminded him that the it is Wayne Hueizenga who is getting the tax break not the Marlins. You should do this. This is an unacceptable way for a "representative" of the people to act towards one of his constitutencies.
April 28, 200521 yr Don't give up. Keep contacting your local Senator. Some of these people DO read their e-mails. This is the response my wife got from our local state rep. -----Original Message----- From: Goldstein, Susan [mailto:Susan.Goldstein@myfloridahouse.gov] Sent: Wednesday, April 27, 2005 10:09 AM To: ******************* Subject: RE: In Favor of State Tax Rebate for Florida Marlins Stadium Dear ***********, Thank you for writing. We are in debate on the bill right now. You can watch online at myfloridahouse.gov. I am strongly supporting this bill. There are many amendments that help other areas also. Hope it passes. I hope that you are well. Just want to express my gratitude for your excellent work at the Florida State Legislature. I would like you to know that our family supports the legislation in favor of providing the State Tax Rebate to the new Florida Marlins Stadium. Best Regards, **** **** Our Address
April 28, 200521 yr It's Miami Or, Possibly, Bust South Florida Sun-Sentinel Editorial Board Posted April 28 2005 Think it's hard trying to keep track of the players on the field? It's even harder to follow the twists and turns of fate for the Marlins stadium proposal in Tallahassee. But as long as it's good news, it's welcome. The on-again, dead-again prospects for stadium funding took an optimistic turn Tuesday when Republican House leaders attached the nearly buried $60 million tax break to a separate bill. The exemption's approval is far from a done deal considering the disappointment the Marlins have suffered in the Capitol over the past eight years. Certainly, though, prospects look more hopeful than they did for weeks after the proposal was blocked in the House Finance and Tax Committee and its chairman, Fred Brummer, pronounced it DOA. That it's still registering vital signs is good for South Florida. Major League Baseball belongs in this region. The Marlins are an integral part of South Florida's social and entertainment fabric. The team has proven that when it has fan and ownership commitment, it is a successful franchise that provides thrills and a needed break from the rigors of work and life in general. Asking the state for a tax break that totals $2 million a year for 30 years is not an exorbitant request. It will not deprive Tallahassee of money for much higher priorities like education. The state government has an obligation to Florida's schools due to constitutional and statutory mandates. Whether the state makes good on that commitment has nothing to do with a decision to give the Marlins a tax exemption for the purposes of financing their stadium. Some Marlins fans in Palm Beach and Broward counties dislike placing the stadium in central Miami, adjacent to the Orange Bowl site. But they must understand that Miami and Miami-Dade County are the only entities that have put a concrete stadium deal on the table. It's either Miami or, possibly, bust. The Marlins' lease at Dolphins Stadium expires in 2010. The lease could be extended, theoretically, but there are a number of financial issues that make Dolphins Stadium a difficult monetary proposition for pro baseball. It might be hard for some fans and lawmakers to get used to the "Miami Marlins," if the team's name is changed as well. But that moniker sounds better than the "Gone From Florida Marlins." http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/opinion/e...-news-editorial

Thanks Dr Guava 756775 That's no way for him to act, but in his defense, he is representing Citrus county, who would rather see the state give money to them than Miami. Again, it was irresponsible and immature of him to be rude, but this is pork barreling at it's finest, you can't expect anyone from Central or North Florida to support a South Florida bill...that's just the way politics work. The people that need to get an earful are the reps from the counties who this directly affects (Palm Beach, Broward, Dade) and are either opposed or apathetic to it.
